A common one is the former world champion fading, slowly working their way down the card from champion, to challenger trying to regain their title, to fringe contender hoping to score and upset and earn one more shot, to a trial run for prospects looking to score a victory over a recognizable name and earn experience on their route towards the top. That arc unfortunately descends even further than that, but at the time Charles Martin was inserted as an opponent for Jared Anderson on twelve days' notice, it was safely assumed that he was firmly in the last of the aforementioned categories.

His next two fights will tell a lot -- if he steps up in class and gets pressed even harder by someone younger and with more pop in his punch.? Nothing stood out well one thing did actually. His ability to roll with a punch to not take the blunt of the force to a certain degree and do it repeatedly was good to see. If he develops that skill or "natural reaction" it will serve him well. Fluency could come with time, accuracy will be needed for sure. Hey not a super fan of the guy yet but at 23 lets see where he goes next. Even if he has many limitations see how he develops with time. As long as they do not expect us to believe the hype until the proof shows itself in the ring ......see what happens.

Anderson is talented and needed the fight. His legs were buckled. He needs to stop fighting cans and fight guys who will test him. Not top guys yet, but better comp than he has had. He is young.

Watching the fight, it felt like Martin was trying not to win. Whenever he was aggressive, Anderson looked clueless.
