Comments Thread For: Hearn On Canelo/PBC Deal: There Will Be Investment From DAZN To Fill Void, Berlanga Will Be Part Of It

NEW YORK - A shot at Canelo Alvarez is the obvious goal for any fighter in and around the super middleweight division. It wasn't the end game for Edgar Berlanga, nor was it the sole reason he signed with Matchroom Boxing. This past Saturday marked the first step on a new journey for the unbeaten Nuyorican, who outpointed Ireland's Jason

Those fights are worth watching sure but they are just not overly interesting. Berlanga just isn’t a franchise fighter. He’s a decent contender, that’s what he is. He’s not a star, he’s not a champion, he’s not a talent that looks to be a sure fire champion. I’d actually rather see all those names fight each other rather than him. IF GGG is going to fight again, against Munguia is a better showdown, or Saunders vs Munguia or GGG.
really odd how Hearn believes he can base a franchise off someone like berlanga

If your looking to build on dazn then you need David Morrell jr to bring eyes build around @168-175 even maybe a cruiser try depending to opponent(his age, athleticism, power, IQ, and reach scream potential p4p). Also would need somebody like Boots or Lopez build around them @147-154. With strategic catch weight @160. Also steal Ryan Garcia hes disgruntled & a name you can overhype. Lastly you will need another heavyweight to build around AJ ain't it. Unless your hoping to hype dazn sales off the Saudi tournament

You can't build around Berlanga, because he's just a contender, and his stock will drop w/o KOs! Hearn would be better off trying to build around Haney, but he tried that already didn't he? The best fight Hearn can make is Haney vs. Prograis! Unless Hearn can make something happen with GBP, he's in bad shape, and so is DAZN!

Was thinking the same. Berlanga is a lesser version of Ryan Garcia; has hype and popularity to sell a decent amount of tickets, but once he steps up, he’ll get exposed. Arum realized this and decided to not invest more $, but as it usually happens, Hearn poor knowledge of the US market always results in him overpaying. Hearn would be smart to keep feeding Berlanga C level fighters with hopes to eventually land the Canelo fight without having to face any of the top echelon at 168.

Totally agree - and particularly with your last point about Hearn needing to work with Golden Boy. Hearn is a bit desperate at the moment - that’s why he had that odd, pathetic “I’m going to tell Daddy DAZN on you! They’re gonna make you work with me and make a Berlanga-Munguia fight” response to Oscar when Oscar said he had no interest in it.

Fill the void with exciting, meaningful fights from the lower weight divisions that dont get much airtime.

Can easily do a Super 6 at the lower weights that gives diehard fans a reason to tune i .

No one wants to see Berlanga or Munguia be given more bums to fight.

If Oscar and Hearn could work together, they could do some things, especially at 140!

Lesser version? Man those dudes are on the same trash level. Just wonder if Berlanga will quit in his first big fight the way Ryan did.
