Comments Thread For: Jamaine Ortiz: I'll Surprise Everybody Again Versus Shakur Stevenson; Easy Fight To Make

Jamaine Ortiz is confident he would surprise Shakur Stevenson much the way he did when Ortiz opposed Vasiliy Lomachenko. Ortiz just hopes that he gets that opportunity versus Stevenson to prove that he is an even better fighter than the one who tested Lomachenko in their 12-round lightweight bout October 29 in New York

    1. Shakur should only fight A listers moving forward
    2. With Shakur's "potential" newfound power, if the last fight is an indication of it, at the new weight class, I think he will be incredibly difficult to compete with

I agree that he should target the top tier in the weight class

But Shakur stevenson is a very light hitting boxer

      Not a Paulie malignaggi puncher
But he has below average power

      But he’s got great skills

I like Ortiz, but I think he should have 2-3 fights before stepping up in competition again. Another loss so close to his last defeat could be a tough pill to swallow. I think he’s got all the skills to become a top tier fighter, but I also don’t want him to lose so quickly.

This idiot was crying a few weeks ago that no promoter wanted to give him a shot at a big fight and then top rank gives him a golden opportunity and his fat as doesn’t even make weight and he blames it on a bs injury

Ortiz might get the fight because he's the only top 10 guy who really wants to face Stevenson. Not saying everybody else is ducking but they are eyeing other opponents.

He pulled the money out of his own pocket.

Agreed but, making fights with A listers is very hard (A side, side of the street etc). In this environnement, he would end up fighting once or twice a year. At this point, I think he needs exposure and not from social media or interviews... Build the brand etc. to force big fights.

It's amazing to me when a guy miss weight that's training for a few weeks, so that tell me for an advantage you walking around at close to 160 pounds draining down for an advantage so you think, well Shakur will still tap that aSs! Let's see though

See how easy it is to come up with an excuse in boxing without providing proof? Anybody can come up with one and get away with it.

It's also possible Arum instructed Ortiz to do so, changed his mind and wants to feed him to Shakur for his next fight. Who knows?
