Comments Thread For: Beterbiev's Trainer Has Not Seen a Slowdown or Decline in The Gym
Artur Beterbiev is gearing up to defend his IBF, WBC and WBO light heavyweight belts against mandatory challenger Callum Smith on August 19 at the Videotron Center in Quebec.

It is funny how there is very little criticism of him or tons of people that comment on his articles. I think he is an enigma - seemingly plodding and brutish BUT the subtlety of his head movements and accuracy of offensive attack nullifies the cave man part of his game.
Yes Yarde landed some good shots and it took Beterbiev more time to destroy his soul. I believe that was because Yarde was a freaking horse of a man-thing and came to win and executed really well.
I for one love watching this man dismantle opponent after opponent and I think we NEED BIVOL!
Smith is taller, longer, has knockout power, and was a good amateur, BUT I see Beterbiev winning even if it goes long. Smith is a better fighter than Yarde and Joe Smith Jr, but he has a tendency to give up his height and reach and get into a firefight. If he does that against Beterbiev then he'll get hurt and broken down. If he tries to fight behind his jab and at distance I think he can make it a long night for Beterbiev and he might even go the distance, but he'll lose on the cards. Smith's credibility took a dive after his poor showing against Canelo, even with the excuse of a short camp and troubles making weight, there's no excuse for such a capitulation on the big stage. That says something to me - it certainly says he's capable of going into a shell when he doesn't have the answers and Beterbiev will make him question himself again and has the heavy handed power to make him pay. I can see it going one of three ways, but every outcome is a Beterbiev win unless it's a complete shocker. You can never write off a puncher like Smith, but I'd put my money on Artur. My wish is for the most entertaining scenario for the viewer and that's for Smith to feel Beterbiev's power early and get drawn into a kill or be killed firefight, a mini Hagler-Hearns at Light-Heavy, somewhat like Artur's fight with Callum Johnson, that would be the most fun, but it ends with Smith on the canvas and another KO win for the champ. And then hopefully onward to Bivol.
"At the moment, there is no slowdown in the gym. We do not see it in terms of his metabolism and in terms of his performance either. I can report we have had two heavy bags and three sparring partners quit on us."

I Echo every single word you said. What's crazy is he has set such a high bar for himself if he doesn't knock out everyone then people will say how much he slid. It's nuts. The man never took a step back and was never in trouble against Yarde but people still talk about how bad he was and all he did was knock him out at the halfway point of the fight.
He is must watch Boxing and I don't care who he fights. We desperately need that unification.
