Sartison-Larsen Bid Won, Konecny-Hall Won By Warren

Danish Palm Promotions won purse bids on Wednesday in Rome for the right to stage the fight between Dimitri Sartison and Mads Larsen with the vacant EBU title at stage. Palm Promotions, headed by former EBU welter champ Hans Henrik Palm, won with a bid for 246,746 EUR. Sauerland Event, Larsenīs promoter, came second with a bid for 196,414 EUR. Mogens Palle bid 166,666 EUR while Universum came up with a bid for 106,580 EUR. Palm have previously promoted only one event but that was a pretty big one with Mikkel Kessler defending the WBA title against Librado Andrade in front of 18,000 spectators in Copenhagen and it was televised PPV in Denmark. Larsen, # 8 in the WBA ratings, vs Sartison, WBA # 2, is a very important fight for both men and the winner is very much likely to become mandatory challenger for the WBA title.

Larsen-Sartison is a highly interesting fight. It's a major surprise that Hans-Henrik Palm won the bidding since he lost his entire fortune in the first stage of the financialcrisis according to several newspaper reports months ago.

Still I'm very happy that it now looks as if the fight will take place in Denmark.

Interesting fight, I thought Sartison was pretty good against Kessler to last as long as he did.

I'm sure Palm did not win this independently. He and Palle did exactly the same trick with the Kessler vs. Andrade WBA pursebid:

Palle leaks his own bid, the opposition bids higher, and then Palm comes in as a joker to make the winning bid. This was all mapped out by Palle and Palm, and they succeeded again.

The undercard of the Kessler vs. Andrade event was made out by Team Palle fighters (plus Vinni Skovgaard). That will happen again here.

The end goal for Palle is surely still the same: He wants to make the Kessler vs. Larsen fight. This fight is an attempt to qualify Larsen as a WBA mandatory, forcing Kessler to take the fight.

If Larsen loses against Sartison, well, that may be it. Larsen will be finished, and the Palle era will be over. What happens if Kessler loses his WBA title to Ward...well, I don't know.

The interesting thing about this fight is whether it will go on tv. The only tv-company in Denmark currently doing boxing is TV2 (on the broad TV2 channel and the niche TV2 Sport channel). But TV2 is working closely together with Sauerland nowadays, and I doubt they will buy into this. And the fight is not big enough for ppv here.

That's another part of the Palm/Palle game, by the way. It's well known that Palle does not have the best of relations with at least some of the tv people. Perhaps they hope to get past that by using Palms face value instead.
