Comments Thread For: Warren: Ludumo Lamati Suffered Brain Bleed In Loss To Nick Ball; In Medically Induced Coma

Ludumo Lamati remains in a hospital in Belfast after suffering a brain bleed during his loss to Nick Ball on Saturday night. Promoter Frank Warren informed IFL TV during an interview posted to its YouTube channel Friday that Lamati has been in a medically induced coma since he underwent emergency surgery. The featherweight from South Africa was still standing when his trainer threw in the towel during the 12th round, but he collapsed in his corner and was taken from the ring on a stretcher following his technical-knockout loss to England's Ball.

Damn. When we didn't hear anything after the fight it was under the assumption that he just stayed in over night and was released in good health the next day. But no, it's the worst that could have happened.

His career is over, but i hope he still has a good life ahead of him and it isn't a struggle for him and his family.

    Get well, man.

The corner did a good job in throwing in the towel

Many other corners definitely wouldnt have done so

I wonder if the british board did brain scans on lumati before the fight

Hope he makes a good recovery

All fight, the commentators were talking about having a good chin because he was taking big shots and not too rocked by them, but I guess that can be the downside of taking a good shot over and over for a long fight, you don't know at the time why damage is being done internally.

Maybe thats something we should all consider when we criticise corners for throwing in the towel early or a ref maybe being a bit too early.

Obviously some are just too early and it looks corrupt but generally I don't see a problem with them stopping a very one sided fight which is only going in one direction.

Not sure on required protocols but there not being an ambulance on site sounds like a breach.

There was an ambulance on site. But they had to wait for conlan fight to start to get an ambulance on site for that fight

In new york, the tragic case of Magomed Abdusalamov saw him have to take a cab to the hospital because there was not an ambulance on site

British board are generally the best in the world in terms of medical side of things. They frequently cancel fights due to failed medicals before fights. have their own check weights which we saw in lara vs wood, immediately administer oxygen to fighters, they have some of the same doctors ringside for years so theyre experienced . If you look at the maxim dadashev situation, dadashev wasnt swallowing the water in the corner which is indicative of brain injury but the doctor wasnt cognisant of this
