The cut came from the thumb portion of Lennox glove pressing against the bone portion above Vitali's eye. I have never seen that in boxing but I think Merchant or one the HBO announcers had before because they quickly pointed that out. There was even a replay showing it as well. No punch or headbutt at all.

It was a looping right hand that caused it.. I remember the punch, it hit Vitali on a weird angle I think.
