Comments Thread For: Sam Eggington: I'm Doing The Best Work of My Career, I'm Here To Win Belts

On Saturday night at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth, the 'Savage' Sam Eggington showed his level of talent by totally dominating a 20-0 puncher that some observers expected to knock Eggington out in Joe Pigford.

Every time they've told this guy to hang it up he rejuvenates his career. Let him fight for those British or Commonwealth honors, and if he comes through, shot at the European. Keep him away from world level and he'll be just fine to coast out a solidcareer.

He has already been European (EBU) champion at 147 pounds! He's also won the IBO super welter world title. And then lost both titles.

Thus, he has already proven himself at the British and European level. He is probably fringe contender level, just above the British and European level. His defeat to Liam Smith showed that he probably doesn't have that something extra though, and he's had 2-3 unnecessary losses, such as his loss to that African boxer and Cheeseman.

A champion might pick him as a voluntary defence if he gets a good ranking in the top 15 and another good win. I give him a puncher's chance to actually win something above the European level, but a good step to put him in position would be to win the EBU super welter title.

I say he deserves a rematch against Dennis 'Hulk' Hogan. That was close - and if he won, that gets him the IBO strap. Not one of the "big four" but higher than regional.

Hogan lost his IBO strap against Metcalf the other week in Dublin

You're right. Even better - a fresh opponent for Eggington.
