  • Comments Thread For: Okolie: I Accept The Decision, Billam-Smith Did Enough To Win, We're Going To Run it Back

On Saturday night, Chris Billam-Smith pulled off a big upset when he took a majority decision victory (112-112, 116-107, 115-108) over unbeaten Lawrence Okolie to become the WBO cruiserweight world champion in front of 15,000 hometown fans at the Vitality Stadium in Bournemouth.

Maybe Billam-Smith can do even better in a rematch, as he says he was quite sick for days before the fight.

At times he seemed sluggish, not throwing punches for most of a round or two when Okolie was coming on aggressively.

Having said that, guessing there's more room for improvement for Okolie. It's just that his style is so, how do I put it, opposite of smooth.

He looks likes he's jumping in and out at an opponent, or like he has a leg injury. But look, he did achieve a world title, and he could again, in the cruiserweight division.

Heavyweights, not good division for him, he'd be ko'd by a number of guys.

This fight was better than expected especially the finale
I wish most boxers would accept defeat as confident as Okolie did
I hope they run it back soon.

Marcus Mcdonald was an awful ref. Wanted to be involved in the event too much. The second knockdown wasn't even a punch landed. Keep him away from their rematch.

hopefully we never have to see Okolie fight again. not even the likes of Ward or Klitschko at their jab and grab peak would clinch 2 times in the first ten seconds of the round ffs.

At least give the man some chops for not doing what other fighters (most recently Loma and Cryan) seem to always do (except for Kambosos) - excuses.

"I accept the decision. He did great work in there. He got a knockdown that changed the momentum of the fight and he did enough to win it"

For the sake of boxing as an entertainment business okolie should retire and become a full time sleeping aid. Most boring style I've ever had the displeasure of watching. He has the ability to do so much better but turns every fight into a non starting ****show.
