Comments Thread For: Robert Garcia Believes David Benavidez Would Have Beaten a Prime Andre Ward

Legendary might be an overused word but there is simply no other way to describe the career of Andre Ward. Yet, despite establishing himself as an all-time great, Robert Garcia isn't sure that if he were still an active fighter, his undefeated record would have held up.

The great thing about Ward is he wouldn't try to hold Benavidez back if he couldn't. Ward would step into fire to get the win and meet Benavidez head on literally. Ward has the mindset of Pedroza in that regard.

It's hard to say, we've yet to see what kind of resistance Benavidez has to headbutts and low blows.

I think Benavidez could only win by knockout. Ward in his prime became very slick and wise to the tricks of the trade. He knew how to grind out a victory.....by any means necessary. The greats know how to get by on dirty tactics too (Ray Leonard, Ali comes to mind). Ward was no different. He probably would have outclassed Benavidez. Benavidez's only chance would be to score a surprise knockout. And after watching Benavidez not know how to stop Plant, I doubt he'd have the knowledge/skills to stop Ward.

        Ward most likely beats Benavidez.

Would be decent first attempt to reorganize new era of boxing.

Calzaghe would have beaten them both.

Loma and Haney would both beat Andre Ward if it were a another staged fake fight with pulled punches and lots of intentional missing.

That would be suicide vs Benavidez with his speed and power. Ward would not be dumb enough to that. Ward was very good but overrated a bit these days.

Agree. Benavidez' punch variety and `power would have eventually overwhelmed Ward
