I k(n)ow very well who Art Tatum is, and like I said many will dispute that! especially when the names such as Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Louis Armstrong, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Parker etc. you get the point! Great he was but many will question the greatest.

Those that you named have all said or say there was no one like Art Tatum ... it's documented. Plenty of outstanding jazz musicians in history, but Tatum is a unanimous choice amongst the greatest ... even with classical music historians.

That said, I really don't believe in a true "greatest" in anything. All of the great ones are in a special class ... capable of always being amazing.
