Margarito is a DECENT fighter, he's extremely limited and has 6 losses. And the plaster which was found before the SHANE fight doesn't mean **** in the Cotto fight. First of all, BECAUSE IT WASN'T FOUND, and second, because even a guy who Cotto beat (Clottey) was able to go the distance vs. Margarito, and Cotto got KTFO.

"Maybe if he would've beat DLH, MOSLEY, TITO, ETC. he would of been Great"

But that doesn't change the fact that he Lost the BIG fights where his Legacy counted. Vargas goes in the class with Zab Judah where they had all the talent in the world but couldn't be that superstar.

So COTTO above VARGAS anyday. and im not saying Vargas doesn't have skills or have talent, im saying Cotto is just a Better fighter in the Ring OVerall.
      Great post

Fluke or not, he has a win over Winky.

This is a tough call here. Skills wise, I think Cotto is better. Power, heart, and toughness I give to Vargas.

I'd say this is yet to be determined. If Cotto beats Pacquiao, we will know more.

People saying Vargas would beat up Cotto etc., well yeah. Vargas is naturally bigger and much stronger. Vargas fought primarily at 154, Cotto has topped out at 147. Vargas topped out at middleweight, or 164 if you want to count the Mayorga fight. I agree Vargas would probably beat and possibly KO Cotto, but that's not the question.

So again, I don't know, if I had to pick now I say Vargas, but we'll see.

            I don't get it

Vargas was good, but he was good for too short a time. He got outclassed by De La Hoya and outgunned by Tito. If he had beat just one of the two, his standing with me would have gone up considerably. Vargas was never great when it counted. Sad, but true. All of the talent and skill doesn't mean **** if you can't come in the ring and put it together to beat your opponent.

The welterweight divison over the past 3-5 years has been extremely solid. Even the class b fighters get avoided often. Cotto has beat half of the welterweight division, some convincingly, others by a hair or too. But at the end of the day he wins. Pure and simple. Unlike Tito, he adjusts well to his opponents and offers a more complete fight game than Tito. And unlike Vargas, he's fight game continued to improve through his prime. He probably peaked after the Margarito fight. Cotto has no glaring weaknesses, is a very strong fighter, and adjusts extremely well to his opponents.

In my opinion, he's better than prime De La Hoya (because he's stronger) and better than Tito (better overall boxing skill). I feel confident than when it's all said and done, if Cotto continues to fight on after Pacquiao, he will be an All-Time-Great...no doubt.

Fernando Vargas at 22-24 was already fighting the elites. That's how skilled he was.

Cotto was fighting tomato cans at 22.

Vargas is better than Cotto prime vs Prime.

You misinterpret the substance to the meaning **** head, I thought Winky won that fight (as many in public view also thought) therefore excluding this as a definative win for Vargas.

                  Peace.

He was damaged goods after Tito. He was managed very poorly, Vargas could've been a great fighter. They threw him to the lions too fast.
