Tyson is a big fan of Vitali and he admitted that prime 4 prime, Vitali would be a very tough fight for him. Tyson stuggled against taller, stronger fighters.Comment

I agree. Look, Tyson had a great chin. Vitali hit Arreola all night and still wasnt able to hurt him badly. What was his landing % 87?Comment

name a taller fighter who gave him trouble in his prime. tillman and holmes gave him trouble by moving. that's about the only style that gave him a challenge.Comment

First, nice bait thread.
You know what?....While Tyson had a good short run by unifying the titles and topping it off with his destruction with Michael Spinks, he couldn't handle the pressure at such a young age and couldn't get over his past. He allowed himself to be manipulated and started to make one bad choice after another. Once he fired the two people that helped get him there, Rooney and Cayton; he went downhill fast.
I posted up videos with interviews that were held right after the Spinks fight where they discuss Tyson’s wanting to quit after Spinks. Now he didn’t quit boxing entertainment, but he quit on his legacy, he quit on D’Amato, he quit being “Iron Mike Tyson” which is quittin on himself...and he quit on his fans. If he wanted to retire after Spinks, then fine...I would have been cool with that. But to just stop being the fighter you are...that's terrible.
Next thing you know, with Rooney gone from his training and Cayton not managing him and keeping him active, Tyson starts to live a wild life, stops training properly, becomes inactive; and gets his ass beat by Douglas.
Say what you will with the Klitschko brothers, but they have never shown up to a fight unprepared and ill-conditioned to fight even against average fighters. And when the lost, they got back up and wanted to regain the glory they lost. They wanted to get better. Tyson, he never regained what he was when he held the title from Berbick to Spinks.
At least we got to see the Klitschko brothers prime. I can't say the same with Tyson. He wasted his chance to show the world how good he could get and be with maturity. That leaves many fans bitter in a way.Last edited by Benny Leonard; 09-28-2009, 07:03 PM.Comment

Why are people even mentioning Tysons loss to Lewis?? It was at the end of his career.
Tyson would have trouble against such huge men. Vitali would clinch on the inside and Tyson couldnt do **** in that vice grip.
But Tyson was great at slipping and countering, fast at moving in and had extremely fast hands.
I say Tyson dominates early, but gets worn down after 6, and survives for a UD.
Even a prime Tyson couldnt KO everyone.
Vitali is tough as hell.
Does nobody remember Tyson getting so frustrated over not being able to KO Holyfield that he ate off his ear?
And near the end of his career or not, to be so totally dominated by someone like Lewis pretty much proves that he was never in his class to start with. I could see it being a "past his prime" issue if he put up a good fight for 6 or 7 rounds before gassing and getting KO'd, but that's hardly the case here. Add to that the fact that Tyson still had his speed and power (he was never a solid 12 round fighter anyway), and you can pretty easily conclude that Tyson would fold at the first sign of serious adversity. He was great so long as his opponents were intimidated.
Understand, of course, that Tyson's physical talents were always up to the task...it was his mental makeup that cost him dearly. But that's unimportant, he would've lost to either brother even if he were a genius. He just didnt have the size, reach or stamina to compete with guys like these.Comment
