I don’t know why some of you guys seem to think that superior skills will beat Ruiz. You’re wrong - dead wrong.
Almost everyone who’s fought Ruiz in the past 10 years had superior boxing skills, but it’s never done them any good. Ruiz just stalks you with his hands high, waits until you’re in range, then jabs and grabs. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got great defensive slip and move skills, or can throw wonderful inside combinations, or a nice jab/hook/straight right/whatever – you never get a chance to show it cuz he’s hugging you all the time!
If you want to beat Ruiz you need either a) A big natural athletic advantage (a la RJJ, who can leap in and out without being hugged, and still have enough power to do some damage); or b) A big natural size/power advantage (a la VK or LL, both of whom never fought Ruiz, but I’m sure could just beat him at his own game and eventually KO him). Skills have got almost nothing to do with it.
Sorry, but Ruiz beats Toney by UD, just like he always does, Return of the Hugger – Part 12.Comment

Do not say that kind of thing.Originally posted by GasPedSorry, but Ruiz beats Toney by UD, just like he always does, Return of the Hugger – Part 12.
It might come true, and I would have to hang myself.
He is so damn boring. I disagree with the clinching thing though...especially against Toney. James is a hell of an inside puncher, and punches well off the break.

What break? The only thing that breaks in a Ruiz fight is your heart, as you realize you've just thrown away another 50 hard-earned watching two half naked men wrestle for an hour.Originally posted by Runw/knivesDo not say that kind of thing.

There ain't no way that Toney at 210 (with no real jab to speak of) is gonna keep Ruiz off him. Sorry (and believe me, I AM), Ruiz by UD.Comment

So do you mean superior physical advantages like Sergei Kobosoev who beat him or maybe the amazing advantage that Daneil Nichelson had. Oh wait you never heard of those guys. Guess why? They suck! And they beat Ruizz.Comment

Hate to say it, the ref is going to have a big influence on this fight. If he lets Ruiz get away with the **** he pulled on Golota its going to make this an uphill battle for Toney. On the other hand if the ref messes up Ruiz's game plan like he did with the Jone's fight, Toney will be on easy street. I think that the difference is Toney has the skill to possibly take out Ruiz even if he pulls out all the cheap ****.Comment

Uhh... ...I have heard of them, and guess what, they beat Ruiz over ten years ago (and by SD)! And the Ruiz who fought then was nowhere near as "huggy" as he is today, not even close. He actually tried to box on occasion then - he didn't perfect his "affectionate" approach until later on his career.Originally posted by joeboxerSo do you mean superior physical advantages like Sergei Kobosoev who beat him or maybe the amazing advantage that Daneil Nichelson had. I totally agree that Toney will need the ref on his side to have a chance, but even then, I don't think it'll be enough. Toney loves to slide around on the inside, slipping and countering while his opponent looks for openings. But it only works if the opponent has his own hands free and is looking to land himself. There's no way Toney will be able to even free his arms, let alone land a punch, with 240 pounds of man-embrace all over him.
At least that's my sad take on the whole affair.

he uses the word "frankenstein" as an insult. i can't wait for this fight, ruiz is gonna lose ( probably not on the scorecards, though ) but he'll be thoroughly outboxed. please God, i hope toney stops ruiz late, and ****s his **** up, too. i hate ruiz, this time he's goin downComment
