Actually Stevenson when he was on HBO agreed to fight kovalev but then he hired haymon and fled to showtime to fight nothing but bums for 5 straight years while ducking everyone else like Hopkins and pascal who both fought kovalev. Kinda weird huh?

They never agreed to a fight on showtime, a purse bid was ordered by wbc but duva pulled out cause she knew haymon would win and kovalev had an HBO contract so wouldn't be able to fight there. They offered Stevenson the same 50 50 split as the purse bid but Stevenson refused to accept that. No fight.

Stevenson left because HBO didn't give him a long term deal like they did Kovalev and others.

Purse bids are meant to at least try to settle these types of contractual stalemates.

If Duva had won the purse bid, would Stevenson have gone to HBO for the fight? I don't see why not because it would be big money.

Duva said it her way (HBO) or the highway (no fight). So Kovalev is really the one who ducked Stevenson, not the other way around.

Forgot about this whole saga. Like someone said earlier, easy to forget how big this potential fight was. Assume Stevenson is back to normal? Have drifted away from the sport a bit over the last few years.
