Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Marcos Maidana (Hypothetical)

Vergil Ortiz Jr. (born March 25, 1998) is an American professional boxer who has held the WBO International welterweight title since 2021. As an amateur, he was a seven-time national champion and was the winner at the 2013 Junior Olympics. He was named 2019 The Ring magazine Prospect of the Year. Ortiz is known for his punching power, with a knockout-to-win percentage of 100%. As of August 2022, Ortiz Jr is ranked as the world's fifth best welterweight by The Ring and fourth best by BoxRec and TBRB. He currently holds a record of 19-0 with 19 knockouts.

    With context, he has defeated:

-Antonio Orozco (28-1)- Antonio had a very good amateur career, he holds victories over Mexican Olympian, Jessie Vargas and U.S. Olympian, Javier Molina. He had only a win over Humberto Soto (65-8-2) and a UD loss to Jose Carlos Ramirez (22-0). He was hospitalized trying to make weigh at light welterweight against Fidel Maldanado Jr (2016) and came 7 pounds overweight against Roberto Ortiz (2017).

-Brad Solomon (28-1)- A three time National Golden Gloves Champion, once in the Welterweight and twice in the Junior Welterweight divisions. In 2007 at the United States Amateur championships he Lost the semi-final fight to Mexican American Javier Molina 13 to 17. He had a record of 20 wins and 5 losses. On December 3, 2009 Solomon beat undefeated Prospect Ray Robinson (11-0) by a S.D. in an 8-round bout. Brad would also win against undefeated Prospect, Puerto Rican Kenny Galarza in a 10-round unanimous decision. (13 wins with 13 KOs) On January 18, 2011 Solomon recorded his biggest win so far, defeating 30-1-1 Demetrius Hopkins by Unanimous decision at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Florida, USA. He had also defeated Adrian Granados (13-4) and lost to Konstantin Ponomarev (30-0) by Split decision.

-Maurice Hooker (27-1-3) was a light welterweight WBO world champion, he had wins over Terry Flanagan (33-0), Alex Saucedo (28-0) and Mikkel LesPierre (22-0-1). He had lost to Jose Carlos Ramirez (24-0) by sixth round TKO. After a comeback win against Uriel Perez 19-4 (18 KOs) coming at 144, he was scheduled to fight Regis Prograis at a catchweight of 143 in April 17, 2020. Close to the fight date he had pulled out. According to Hooker’s trainer Brian McIntyre he was struggling a lot to make weight and Hooker decided to campaign at 147. Prior to the fight, Vergil Ortiz Jr had contracted Covid-19 postponing the fight for a later date and had an arm injury during camp.

-Egidijus Kavaliauskas (22-1-1), Egidijus Kavaliauskas (born June 29, 1988) is a Lithuanian professional boxer who challenged for the WBO welterweight title in 2019. At regional level, he held the WBC–NABF welterweight title from 2017 to 2019 and the WBO Inter-Continental welterweight title in 2018. As an amateur, he represented Lithuania at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, and won a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships.

He had a thudding knockout ratio of 82%. He has wins over:

-David Avanesyan (22-3) (who went to have a good six-win streak with wins over Josh Kelly (10-0-1) & Kerman Lejarraga (27-0) X2).
    -Mikael Zewski (34-1)
    -Mykal Fox (22-3)

He had a controversial draw with Ray Robinson (24-3-2). Kavaliauskas landed 88 of 432 (20%) and, Robinson 70 of 527 (13%). Ray was well touted in the amateurs and had defeated Terrance Crawford in the amateurs. Kavaliauskas had lost to Terrance Crawford (35-0) by 9th round KO although he put a good performance.

-Michael Mckinson (22-0) had wins over Luis Alberto Veron (17-0-2), Martin Harkin (13-0), Przemysław Runowski (20-1), and Chris Kongo (12-0). Those aren't world championship level fights. But Runowski and Kongo had defeated gatekeepers such as Samuel Vargas and Sebastian Formella. Veron also went the distance with Rocha in a quite boring fight. Mckinson had only two knockouts out of his 22 wins at the time but knocked down 4 out 5 opponents prior to the Mckinson-Ortiz bout. Vergil Ortiz Jr was coming off from a serious illness called Rhabdomyolysis and was unactive for a year.

Marcos René Maidana (born 17 July 1983) is an Argentine former professional boxer who competed from 2004 to 2014. He held world championships in two weight classes, including the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title from 2011 to 2012, and the WBA welterweight title from 2013 to 2014. A versatile brawler in the ring, Maidana was well known for his formidable punching power, and was never stopped in any of his five losses. He has a record of 35-5 with 31 knockouts.

I added context with Vergil due to having a pretty short career so far, with Maidana's opponents they are more publicly known by the worldwide media. Since both trained under RGBA. I thought it be interesting to see as Maidana has a high knockout ratio with no losses via KO.

He had wins over Jesus Soto Karass (30-7-4), Erik Morales (51-6), Joselito Lopez (31-5-1), Victor Ortiz (25-1-1) and Adrien Broner (27-0-1). He had competitive losses to Andreas Kotelnik (30-2-1), Amir Khan (23-1), Devon Alexander (22-1), and Floyd Mayweather X2. (45-0)
