Regardless of whether he was beating Byrd, he made the conscious decision to quit, knowing and accepting it was a loss. End of.

And I don't think those gashes on his face appeared by magic vs Lewis, he was getting tagged big time, and it was a legitimate stoppage, plus Lewis was coming on.

Vitali was COMPLETELY DOMINATING Byrd until the FREAK injury, his arm was literally falling off....Wlad destroyed Byrd twice.

That's about the end of it, I'm afraid, despite the nuthugger fantasies. You have to do more than 0-1 against other potential ATGs to be an ATG.

Pretty much. Although I don't rate Calzaghe an ATG either despite no losses and two wins against such fighters (although one, at least was wll past his best). ATG isn't some all-purpose merit badge, it shows you can hold your place among the best of all time at the weight.

People Hold it against Marciano about his eras weak opposition, so of course the standard will always be there. Who is out there to fight for these 2? mostly outta shape sluggers who get 1-2'd into oblivion.

I dont care about KO ratios or any of that stuff, if vitali went 60-0 and retired he would be like marciano, fought great fighters at the end of their career or just fought nobodies who went in for a payday.

You know what would really help....if one of them was the undisputed champion of the world, right now alot of ppl just call them paper champions.
