Comments Thread For: Hearn: If Canelo Doesn't Beat Ryder Convincingly, You Have to Start Looking at a Potential Regression

Eddie Hearn views Canelo Alvarez's upcoming fight with John Ryder as an important litmus test. Alvarez, 32, is scheduled to defend his four super middleweight titles against London's Ryder on May 6 at Azteca Stadium in Alvarez's homeland of Guadalajara, Mexico.

He needs to fight Benavidez to prove he still the man.

Bivol can grow some balls and make the Beterbiev fight. Let the small guy fight in his division.

Everybody knows it is Beterbiev's promoter keeping the Bivol fight from happening. And Canelo is actively trying to rematch Bivol, not the other way around.

Hearn should consider to quit promoting boxers. I have never seen a promoter that puts unnecessary pressure on his boxers like this guy. He talks too much and unnecessarily. If I were his boxer I would be happy to leave him. I think AJ is going to leave him after his current contract is up.

Canelo is likely slipping but his performance has more to do with level of competition than anything else. And that’s always been the case with him. Looks sensational against mid level opponents and struggles to look good with better opposition. Bivol was too good for canelo and even a 40 yr old ggg fighting in a new weight class was better than the opposition canelo was facing since their second fight 4 yrs earlier. He’s in a bad spot because it’s either lose to bivol again or have to deal with Benavidez. Both aren’t ideal for Canelo’s career.

I'll think he stop Ryder in the mid to late rounds but even doing that I don't see him beating a bivol without it being a gift win. I mean look at the fight last time canelo lost like 9-10 rounds in that fight an it still was 115-113 on all 3 cards so If canelo goes into a bivol rematch a wins a couple more rounds then he'll a get a gift. But canelo has fought for a long time being a pro from 15 etc so even only being 32 it's still alot miles on the clock even if the fights don't take it out of you the camps do
