im not buying into any of this size stuff in boxing, if u can make the weight day before and follow the rules then u are good to go, but i always liked the hbo fight night weight stuff, gives an indication of who is doing what in the run up to the fight to make the weight, the bottom line tho is that it is a bit silly to have weight classes for safety yet have a system that allows guys to come in a class bigger or more than their opponent, just weird stuff to me, it just creates this constant chatter about guys size and weight which noone really knows anymore and this idea that a guy who makes weight is actually picking on a guy in the same weightclass, a weightbully

I need to correct my previous post on here. I said Haney rehydrated 22 pounds for the Gamboa fight, according to the WBC. It was actually 24 pounds, not 22 pounds. So Devin weighed 159 poundson fight night when he fought Gamboa.

Yeah. But at the same time, Haney fans will also have excuses because they'll say that the weight cut was too extreme and Haney couldn't fight while so weakened. There's going to be plenty of excuses both ways, I'm sure. And maybe both groups will have a point because both factors can affect a fighters performance. However, Loma has to fight Haney to be undisputed, and Haney has to lose the weight to fight at lightweight. It's a choice.

Anyway, check this out. Here's a scientific research article that discusses a study on fighters' rehydrating.
The purpose of this study was to characterize the magnitude of acute weight gain (AWG) and dehydration in mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters before competition. Urinary measures of hydration status and body mass were determined approximately 24 hours before and then again approximately 2 hours before competition in 40 MMA fighters (mean ± SE, age: 25.2 ± 0.65 years, height: 1.77 ± 0.01 m, body mass: 75.8 ± 1.5 kg). The AWG was defined as the amount of body weight the fighters gained in the approximately 22-hour period between the official weigh-in and the actual competition. On average, the MMA fighters gained 3.40 ± 2.2 kg or 4.4% of their body weight in the approximately 22-hour period before competition. Urine specific gravity significantly decreased (p < 0.001) from 1.028 ± 0.001 to 1.020 ± 0.001 during the approximately 22-hour rehydration period. Results demonstrated that 39% of the MMA fighters presented with a Usg of >1.021 immediately before competition indicating significant or serious dehydration. The MMA fighters undergo significant dehydration and fluctuations in body mass (4.4% avg.) in the 24-hour period before competition. Urinary measures of hydration status indicate that a significant proportion of MMA fighters are not successfully rehydrating before competition and subsequently are competing in a dehydrated state. Weight management guidelines to prevent acute dehydration in MMA fighters are warranted to prevent unnecessary adverse health events secondary to dehydration.
So the article is saying that the average weight gained while rehydrating before a fight is 7.5 pounds, with a range of 4.8 to 12.4 pounds. So rehydrating 24 pounds, which is twice as much as this study found, is so suspect that I think an investigation needs to happen because this is a very unsafe practice, both for the fighters doing this massive weight cut and the fighters on the receiving end of opponents who weight nearly 15 pounds more than they do. People shouldn't forget what Gatti did to Gamache. This is serious.

I think boxing fans just love excuses more than any other sports fans possibly & they are more often than not just the same excuses repeated over and over, too small, too old, injured, out of prime, too green, over the hill, on the decline, wrong weightclass, cheating bad tactics, biased officials just to start off

lol Yeah. Probably. Although, I used to think boxing fans were the most ridiculous with the amount of garbage that comes out of most people's mouths. But it's actually not true. Lately, I've gotten back into football (soccer), and I've noticed that the amount of absolute garbage that comes out of people's mouths surpasses boxing. I hear things such as Pele played against janitors his whole career or Messi is only good because he scores goals off penalties. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Everyone has an opinion these days, and everyone wants to share that opinion. The problem is that 90 percent of people out there are morons and cringeworthy fanboys, and the more popular a sport is, the worse it is.

Yeah. Messi is a humble guy, considering. I remember him from the beginning. My mother actually introduced him to me a long time ago. She's from South America and would watch Argentinian games. Messi was playing for the international team way back when. I remember the first time I saw him, I was thinking "who the hell is this guy?" I was a fan of Javier Saviola and D'Alessandro. I remember that Messi was subbed in over them during some matches, and I kept thinking: "who the hell is this guy? How can they sub him in over those other two?" And my mom was like, "Oh, La Pulga? He's really good. Watch. He's going to surprise you."

Surprise me he did. That was about nearly 20 years ago now.

im not a body language expert but ive closely examined those photos using windows magnifier & its clear to me that haney is a bit shook & loma looks a bit bigger than expected so im going to change my pick based on these facts from 8 4 to haney to a draw
