  • Have they over trained Benavidez and ruined him?

Big David fan but that was not the mexican monster in there last night. The monsters strength is over whelming punches and combinations from start to finish, yet what we saw last night was a tentative boxer puncher, who struggled to let his hands go for half the fight and literally threw none of his hallmark combinations. He just relied on single clubbing shots like he was punching a heavy bag. All the natural fluid flurries were no existent.

Some people say its because of Plant holding and moving, but even when he slowed down in the second half David still offered the same one dimensional offense. Nothing how he usually fights. Did they refine him too much that he has lost what makes him special? Or was it just a bad night in the office and the Plant style?

He is not special if he fights like last night. You should not control a monster, let him do what he does best.

There was nothing wrong with Benavidez, the dude was in top top shape.

And it's exactly how you said it, Plant was wrestling and holding all night, it was awful. Why didn't the punk ass ref not dock any points or warn Plant from holding?

And then Payless stops the fight right when Plant gets hurt bad and stops Benavidez momentum, it was terrible.

Plants running and holding and Kenny Payless's officiating ruined the fight.

For once i agree with you. .
this was not the same david we are used to..
But the same happened to ggg when he stepped up and fought canelo, he was gun shy and not the mexican style fighter we used to see..
Plant had a lot to do with it, lets give him credit, david did well by going to the body and that broke plant down on the second half...it is what it is.

Don't know why some fans expect the same outcome as if opponents are all the same.
I'm not a boxer, yet I could imagine it's not easy to catch a guy hell-bent on not getting caught by moving, clinching, holding...
Sounds ****** just thinking about it. Even Superman had to employ different tactics to catch and beat the enemy.

Styles make fights , literally in this case
I think that all the chasing and the grappling that Plant brought upon Benavidez , took a huge toll on him
It’s quite tiring to wrestle someone off you let alone having to chase him at the same time
          Only time will tell

The opponent was much higher quality in this fight and the opponent was a mover, I get the impression guys get used to somebody running through a bunch of guys and then they face a much higher class of a boxer, if they don't run this guy over like his others opponents there must be something wrong, on the contrary, he was in great shape and fight at a high pace and he fought too emotional, Caleb can move and was always off footing David, look at Karen vs Ennis.

People have to have a good sense of classes to be able to see the true fight, they see the fight and cant see the mechanisms that gave the result, its always something is wrong when nothing was wrong just a clash of styles, David still walked him down and battered him the final rounds it was a good performance from both guys, the better man on the night won.

Jaron Boots Ennis must have been over trained when he fought Karen. It probably ruined him also...

Plant was holding and clinching all night no question but David was letting himself get tied up. Bayless will let you fight out of the clinch if you’re willing to work on the inside. We saw that later on in the fight. But early on it seemed like David was content on getting tied up and was rolling with it.

Plant was under referee`s protection the whole night and he was wrestling and holding the whole night. That prevented Benavidez from stopping him.

It was a big event fought at a high level, you’re not just going to mow down top guys. Plant is pretty good and when things went left he was determined to see all 12 and play spoiler. I thought it was a great performance by David, very tactical.
