    “The Problem” with Chris Colbert.

This kid reminds me a lot of Broner man. Has so much talent but just lacks the mentality and attitude to fulfil his potential.

He’s definitely caught between styles, he’s definitely caught between wanting to be a stylist and wanting to entertain.

He’s trying to play a character with this “prime time” gimmick which has an “about billions” feel to it.

He needs to go back to those fundamentals that won him 100+ amateur fights and made him one of the best young prospects in the US. Drop this street mentality/persona and just focus on the boxing, work on your craft not your profile. Or before you know it you’ll be washed up in your 30’s and signing with Don King.

The problem with Colbert is that he pulls straight back when hurt and shells up instead of moving his head off the line, and while he punches in combination, he doesn't have the blinding speed of a Broner/Stevenson at 130/135

He won't win a title, and isn't even comparable to a prime 23 yo Broner.

He's what, 26 now? He's more like Alex Ramos.

He’s definitely comparable in terms of attitude/mentality. He’s still so immature like AB.

I suspect he’s surrounding himself with the wrong sort of people too.

Two best punches of the night - Colbert relaxed in front of a southpaw and Spencer relaxing on his opponents shoulder. Stay focused.

Spencer's spook fed resume and lack of defense showed up big time. Dad has to go.

Joey Spencer was exposed back in 2019 against Akeem Black and seems to have regressed. Literally only relying on his power and aggression......not sure why PBC pushed him for 5 fing years

Perfect comparison. I thought the same thing looking at the fight. Just stuck in a gray area as far as who he wants to be in the ring. Boxer's personas only matter when they are winning so I don't really care about it most times.... Broner tried his damnedest to be another Floyd.... It worked for Floyd because he was winning....Broner came up short a couple times.

But the question for me is...........Aureliano Sosa, I don't know much about him, but is he the primary issue in Colbert's struggles in identity in the ring or is it more Colbert just trying to figure it out himself. According to Sosa, "Colbert is a different breed"... When a coach is suggesting this, that tells me there are certain things about his fighter that he allows him to do because the fighter makes it work. I've seen Freddie allow Manny to do certain things in the ring that most trainers wouldn't coach their fighters to do. BoMac gives Crawford room to do his thing in the ring as well, even if it leaves him open for clean shots early in fights. So if Sosa see Colbert in that same light, will his issues be fixed?

I don't see it. He's not as slick as they make him out to be though, that's for sure.
