A Man On An Island… (Ruiz vs. Toney)

It seems James Toney is finally going to try and make good on his promise to “knockout all bums” and win the Heavyweight Championship when he steps into the ring against John Ruiz at a site and date to be determined. [details]

I am just worried about JT coming in with rust. If Nady isn't the Ref, Ruiz has a good chance. Should be an interesting fight. Toney doesn't like to be held and has been known to rough house a bit. Ruiz may not be to quiet for this one!

I don't think that Toney has ever really been tested by a brawler. The only time I think that he has ever been in danger were with good boxers dancing around him. It is going to be a lot different at heavyweight because Toney won't be the stronger guy I think Ruiz will be the first one to really test Toney's chin. It should be a great fight.

I can't believe I said that about great fight and Ruiz together but I did.

Since Toney is a weak puncher, perhaps we will see Ruiz come out of his shell and actually throw some punches. Then again, he may just clinch even more as he is the much stronger man.

I predict he will come out with both guns blazing but quickly learn that he is the inferior boxer. He is going to get countered with nearly everything he tries. At this point, maybe as early as the third or fourth round, Ruiz will resort to his clinching style where his size and strength can work for him.

Ruiz wins in his usual boring fashion.

you mean Ruiz will resort to his usual arm clinching style. I think you might be exactly right about that if thats what you mean. My question is why is he permitted to do something that is so clearly illegal. If he started that **** and I was the ref, I would warn him twice, then take a point, then take his belt away. It is the same thing as low blows.

Yeah I meant that Ruiz will resort to clinching, not Toney. I'm really not sure how Ruiz gets away with it but everyone who watches the sport is fed up with it.

Let's just keep our fingers crossed that Toney can restore some credibility to the division by defeating Ruiz. The guy has been annoying the hell out of all of us for the last few years.

Hearing all this about Ruiz makes me very happy I've never been misfortunate enough to see him fighting. He sounds like a real *****, and I hope he gets KOed or something. Refs should call the fights, if for nothing else, boring people to death.

That happend in the fight with Fres Oquendo. Ruiz landed a good punch and the ref called the fight over even though he easily could have continued. No one cared though. It was mercifull for the fans.

No, man, I mean they should call the fight and ban Ruiz from boxing.
