  • Comments Thread For: Ryan Garcia: I Definitely Put Boxing First, Had To Accept A Lotta Stipulations For Davis Fight

NEW YORK - Ryan Garcia made many concessions during negotiations for the high-profile fight he wanted most of all. Garcia gave Davis a one-sided rematch clause that only Davis can exercise if Garcia upsets him April 22 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Davis' rival also agreed to face the powerful southpaw at a contracted catch weight of 136 pounds, despite that Garcia fought at the junior welterweight limit of 140 pounds in his last appearance.

Garcia has not done much and is about to get paid. Don't like all the weight clauses because it becomes a built in excuse.

My respect for Garcia has increased because of these concessions. Tank is looking weak here.

Good for him and seems he's in a great place right now. Gotta admire that self belief having conceded to all of Tanks ridiculous stipulations to get this **** done. A lot of people are going to be shocked/upset how easy Ryan's going to make it look....#HighDesertWartrain#!!!

A Catch weight/re-hydration clause is specifically designed to weaken an opponent. The one way rematch is a way to make sure to get away with it. That's not even debatable, it's a fact.

A punch hasn't been throw and Ryan is already prepping his post fight talking points.

True.... but also true....Fighting top guys only if you can contractually make them weaker, cherry picking styles, re-hydration clauses and excuses for avoiding the best are why many consider 2015 -2023 the shyt stain in boxing's time line.

The difference between talk points and contractual disadvantages in writing is that one is an opinion the later is a verifiable fact.

One thing that I don’t see people talking about is the potentially very positive influence Joe Goosen may be having on Ryan.

I could imagine an elder statesman like Goosen saying, if you want to be great, you have to be willing to compromise to fight the very best. Because it indeed looks like that’s exactly what Ryan has done.
