    Sparring Rumors

Does anybody else think the Lamont Peterson vs Floyd Mayweather sparring session in which Peterson supposedly "had his way with Mayweather," was just over-hyped media fodder with the purpose of promoting a fight between the two? Or do you people think Peterson actually beat a frustrated, and anxious Floyd Mayweather?

I laughed when I heard this nonsense. Anybody remotely familiar with training regimens of boxers, knows that sparring sessions are not intended to be balls-to-the-wall wars for the fighter in training. As Freddie Roach (who I don't care for at all) referenced: sparring sessions are meant to be a tool for fighters to work on what they don't do well. They are not intended to be knock out dummies for Tyson, Pacquiao, etc.

thats why i never cared for that spafadora - overweight floyd spar bout. For what we know floyd could just be there working on his timing, allowing the guy to punch him while he was intentionally not using his footwork.

Looking how good he looked against JMM, I find it hard to belive that the 140 Peterson beat Floyd Up. But I have always thought Mayweather has never been a great sparring fighter, he leaves his best work for the ring.

Against Spadafora, he was out of shape and the sparring session was really close until the very end.

Yea even if it was true most boxer in sparring sessions dont fight the way they would in the actual ring. The rumors said that Floyd and Peterson were throwing punches back and forth and Peterson was getting the best of Floyd. Since when does Floyd exchange punches with someone?

Prob a little truth to it, if you bring in good sparring partners like you should then they might get the best of you every now and again. Any fighter can have a bad day or two out of the whole two month training camp. What matters most is how he performs on the big stage.
