Comments Thread For: James Toney Believes Shakur Stevenson Should Stay Away From Gervonta Davis

For the most part, it's hard to leave a lasting impression on James Toney. The former multi-divisional champion and recently inducted Hall of Famer simply believes that he has an eye for talent. But while he's downplayed several of today's fighters, he does see something special in Shakur Stevenson.

Toney was great at one time, would have been good to see Hopkins vs Toney, Hagler vs Toney, Hagler vs Hopkins. Stevenson would give Tank problems because of his style.

Tank is tailor made for Shakur with his hamster sized reach and lack of overall boxing ability. He was sensitive to get outboxed against Cruz b!tches.

Tank KOs Garcia and possibly Haney. But, Shakur is different level in terms of ability to box. His footwork and distance control are top notch. Also, he destroys high guard baits.

          I disagree.

Haney and stevenson have good length and timing .
their boxing iq to go with their skill and mastery of distance can have them put tank in a boxing match from the pocket and just outside of it . They dont have to recklessely track down tank to beat him .

Their am careers will go a long way in beating tank and so would lomachenkos

Toney pretty much nailed it. Shakur, one of my favorite fighters, is filed with skill and ring IQ, and he will beat and challenge almost anyone. But, Tank is the beast with a skillset beyond where credit can be given. Tank hit different, it always gets dark.

people always jump on the bandwagon of hard hitters, until they lose that is hoho

but hype is good, its gets fans interested and fills seats and sets up fights, if they ever get made that is

shakur has come up 2 weight classes pretty quick so would make sense establishing himself at this one first, that could be a worry for his fans, it could be tough at 135 is hes not 100% there and ready

Tank is always dangerous but Shakur has the skills and style to out box him. It's a great match up. Hard to pick a winner.
