Comments Thread For: De La Hoya on Jake Paul's Potential WBC Ranking: He Should Be Ranked In Top 30; Nothing Wrong With That

Oscar De La Hoya isn't so outraged at the thought of Jake Paul receiving a ranking by the World Boxing Council. It all depends, according to the promoter, on what that ranking is. The WBC roiled the boxing world recently when its head, Mauricio Sulaiman, stated that Paul, the famed YouTuber-turned-boxer, would find a home in their cruiserweight rankings should he defeat Tommy Fury this Sunday in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, on ESPN+ Pay-Per-View.

Let em get ranked. He should take Fury's spot if he beats him. That just means he'll hafta fight real boxers if he's really serious about the sport and that's probably where the circus will end. Most of this is just for attention like most of the stuff these social media babies do. If he beats Fury, then he deserves some type of credit. But the fact that people are really picking him to beat Fury says alot about what people think about Fury as a boxer. Fury has a ton of pressure on his shoulders from the entire boxing world and will probably never live it down if he loses to this dude.

Jake Paul's done nothing to deserve a top # 30 ranking in boxing. Oscar would've never said a thing in his hay day, but now that he's a promoter he find's it acceptable.

My mistake then. So Paul using his usual bully tactics on smaller guys once again. Kid seems scared to challenge anybody his size. Guess it's pretty easy to sell these these circus fights when when most of your fanbase are kids that know nothing but social media. No real men respect this nonsense. The fact that any sanctioning body approves of this and is willing to give him a ranking shows once again that boxing has no real integrity. Money talks and everything else walks as usual.

The ranking is a bit controversial, for sure.

I do think the cruiserweight division is one of the weakest in boxing, so that can help Jake, if he progresses a lot, and beats Tommy Fury easily. Not that Tommy Fury has shown much, but he's got the Fury name and a bit of hype.
