Pascal Stops Branco in Ten, Diaconu Rematch Next

At the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (24-1, 16KOs) retained his title with a ten round stoppage over mandatory Silvio Branco (59-10-2). For Pascal, it was the first defense of the title he won from Adrian Diaconu in June. [details]

Branco @ 43 years of age was fighting as such, as a 43 year old.
Pascal didn't do much to put pressure on the old man and even though Branco was down 4-5 times, he was never unstable on his legs, most of these so called knock downs were more pushes. Pascal wasn't impressive at all and looks like someone that needs a good opponent to step up to the plate and look good. Branco was just too old and shot to be inspiring for Pascal, that's my take on it. He's got to step up a couple of levels against Diaconu otherwise he'll look at the canvas as Pascal got a bad habit of being vulnerable when throwing punches which is something that Diaconu can take advantage of.

Branco is age 43 and turned pro back in the 80s. He was at his best in the late 90s.

Pascal didn't look very good tonight, he was sloppy and was laying back a lot. He had a home Canadian ref helping him out, letting him get away with pushing and rabbit punching.

Pascal is on a nice streak this year, 3 fights, he sent the 3 to the canvas at least once and 2 of them have been champs of the world... Branco is old but he was in great shape, he was solid but Pascal is a guy that likes to brawl and kept catching him, he sent him down 4-5 times. I think Pascal looked great, the KO at the end was spectacular. I can't wait for the rematch with Diaconu. I don't think Pascal is ready to face Cloud or Dawson but he's a fighter to watch as he progress, he has a very entertaining style, he's young and talented. Id like to see him against Jones jr or Johnson.

Pascal is the epitome of a fighter who fights to the level of his opponent. The better the guy he's facing, the better he fights.

Pascal was taking his time in the first 3 rounds and not throwing 2 many punches but after he got into his comfort zone he was in control the rest of the fight. Branco was using his jab and Pascal was coming in swinging with wild wide shots and he was connecting. Pascal got the better of the heated exchanges. A K.O. VICTORY for Pascal who is still only 26 years old, a young champion and I am sure he will keep learning and improving after every single fight
