Comments Thread For: Joshua Franco-Kazuto Ioka Rematch Set; Ioka To Vacate WBO Title

Kazuto Ioka is prepared to abandon one title to chase another. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that Ioka--Japan's only-ever male four-division titlist--will move forward with a desired rematch with San Antonio's Joshua Franco. The two met in a WBA/WBO junior bantamweight title unification bout which ended in a draw last New Year's Eve in Tokyo. The rematch will only come with Franco's WBA title at stake, as Ioka is required to relinquish his WBO title in lieu of an ordered mandatory title defense versus countryman Junto Nakatani.

Franco outworked Ioka and deserved to have gotten the victory, glad that at least the rematch is taking place.

It was a great fight to watch, could be an epic trilogy.

The first fight was a good one I thought Franco won comfortably but it wasn't like Ioka didn't have his moments a lot of his counters get disregarded and since he was at home you knew unless it was a completely one sided fight or a knockout then it was a risk.

My take from the first fight is that Franco can hurt Ioka but I don't think Ioka has the power to hurt Franco, I think Franco knows this and he's going to come in looking for the knockout hopefully he gets it just sucks that it's not a unification anymore.

Cmon Josh , then why even fight this clown again. Just pass it up and fight nala tank for the vacant belt. Your goal was to become undisputed and this is a pointless fight ‍♂️

It's Robert's dumbass with his bad management.

RG is a great trainer but doesnt come off as the sharpest individual.

Gotta give it to Ioka. That bushido spirit wouldn't let him go any other direction knowing he has unsettled business with Franco. Especially knowing most people thought he got beat in his backyard. Franco is brave going back to Japan knowing how the deck is stacked against him again. Both guys know they needa lvl up for the rematch to decide a clear winner. Should be another good dogfight.
