Stamina during 15 round days vs now

There are a group of individuals on this site who claim that fighters back in the 15 round days are able to go that distance due to pacing and throwing less punches per round (PPR) over the course of the fight.

But that is absolutely not true. Pick ANY fight from the good old days, and you get more PPR, more feighting, more movement, more inside fighting. You get a completely better product. How can anybody claim the opposite.

I'm watching Richie Kates vs Richie Bennett right now, and these LHWs are throwing more punches than a welterweight in today's era.

Why can people not admit that fighters had better stamina back then compared to now?

fighters had better stamina back in the day due to same day weigh ins and they fought more often. Fighters today fight once or twice a year, and gain 40-50 lbs in between fights and spend the training camp losing wight for the weigh in, that they will rehydrate 15-20 lbs for overnight.

They definitely had better stamina for the most part, and they were generally more skilled too. New modern training methods seem to prioritize strength and explosiveness, which ends up producing bulkier fighters that tend to be shorter(there are exceptions) and heavier than their 15 round era counterparts.

Science will always play a factor in sport, the drugs now are better than the drugs then. A friend of mine has a theory that fighters hit harder now and punches are doing more damage. That could be part of the reason output isn’t the same as fighters can no longer absorb as many blows but it’s not something I fully subscribe to.

Personally, I don’t see too much of a difference, generally, we’ve had fighters in the modern era like a Froch or Joyce who would have benefited from 15 round fights and we had guys back in the 15 round era who would have benefited from 12 round fights, Tommy would have a points win over Ray if that fight was over 12 for example.

I believe output in fights generally comes down to stylistic clashes and also tactics. Compare Hagler-Hearns to Leonard-Duran 3 for example. Even in recent memory, Yarde-Beterbiev was an all out war but when Yarde fought Lyndon Arthur it was a complete borefest the first time round.
