Roy Jones-Bernard Hopkins II is Signed For 2010

Hopkins clinched quite a bit in the Pavlik fight, particularly from the 5th round on. He would throw two punches, fall in, and grab Kelly's body. Then, he would through rabbit punches while clinched or hold the back of Kelly's neck and throw short uppercuts (dirty box). However, Hopkins threw more combinations than I have seen him throw in a while and completely outclassed Kelly. That may have been a mirage, though, as I am of the mind that Kelly is being truthful about his illness going into the fight. Illness, the additional ten pounds (well, four over his last fight), and the weight disparity on fight night (I believe Hopkins weighed 180 on fight night; Kelly just over 170), I think, all contributed to Kelly looking rather pathetic. I don't believe Hopkins is that much better of a mover than Kelly. When Kelly says he "couldn't get off" repeatedly after the fight, I think that had less to do with Hopkins and more to do with the aforementioned disadvantages. That said, Hopkins clearly is a shrewd fighter and has ways of keeping himself out of trouble (e.g. one or two punches, fall in, and clinch), and, in fact, he is one of my favorite fighters. So, in the fight with Pavlik, I was only slightly annoyed by his cheating. In the fight with Calzaghe, I loved it. But, if he tries that **** with Roy, I'm going to be screaming at my television.

Incidentally, I have Roy by comfortable UD.

Are you forgetting that Kelly is WAY younger? Kinda an advantage, don't you think? Kelly might have been a bit over his normal weight, and been a bit ill, but Hopkins was 44!

Maybe it's everything. Lacy is an burnt burger. Just like Sheika. Even at 44 Hopkins is a lot fresher and will try some things those guy didn't. Like defense, for starters.

He has been looking pretty bad recently. I'd guess that he needs some time off to get it together. Even during the interview for the Roy fight, he seemed to be talking a bit odd. He's still relatively young.

I don't get why Roy is bothering to fight Green then. Why exactly does he need that fight again? Let's get to the money fight already. Btw, BHop by UD or late KO.

Because Jones-Green will be one of the, if not thee, biggest fight in australian boxing history... they are selling out a stadium in Sydney Australia... and the fight, is in... Sydney Australia... it IS, a money fight.

As long as it ain't on PPV.

I have to see these two guys in the ring before I believe it. I am one of Hopkins' biggest fans, but he isn't doing anything for his legacy by taking this fight. We are going to have to listen to his haters say of how he is ducking Chad Dawson if Chad beats Johnson a lot more impressively than he did the first time, which will not be easy. But it's possible if Glen has lost a step. And I don't think a Hopkins-Adamek fight will ever happen. I think Tomasz is going to stay at Heavyweight.

Hopkins isn't ducking Dawson, you aren't going to hear that from me.

Danny Green might just interrupt all of this.

One of the interesting things I saw Roy say about this rematch is...

He made a committment to Danny Green to fight him, which is fine and it's good that he's not going back on his word when it's obvious that fight could be thrown out the window in favor of this one. BUT...

Roy said he was willing to fight anywhere from December 5th onward, and that's odd to me. This fight I assume will be somewhere around the end of January to the middle of February in 2010, which will give Roy VERY little time in between fights to both prepare and recover from having fought Danny Green. I dont' doubt Roy will win that fight, but it seems that with all the trash talk going on, this is a bad move.

Anybody else agree, that Roy may over-train in such a short period preparing for TWO fights within less than 3 months of each other?

It's not odd at all... the Green fight will be Roys 4th fight in 12 months... the most active he has been in his entire career... he said he will be ready because he feels he is in great shape from being so active in the ring lately... thats why he is fine with being ready only 4-6 weeks later... he is simply staying in fight shape. meanwhile Hopkins will have a 17-18 month layoff at 45 years old...people will overlook ths fact like CRAZY.

Judging from Roy on 24/7 with Calzaghe, i dont think Roy really goes all out in training to overtrain. lol

I would agree, except for the fact that since that fight, his father is back in his camp, and his dad is VERY strict. Roy's attitude has also changed significantly, he seems more surly, more ready to fight instead of being all happy go lucky as he was against Tito and Calzaghe.

If you ask me, Roy's reinvigorated with his Dad back in his training camp. He threw many more shots against Lacy than we're used to seeing him throw recently. He seems quick(er) and goes to the body much more as well.

It's true, nice to see SOMEONE notices these details.... people say.. well... it was Lacy... yet he didnt do these same things to Prince Badi (who?) Hanshaw... (who?) ... he didnt have to let his hands go like that on Lacy... and he hasnt in 6+ years.... but he did.
