The fickleness of boxing fans / AJ can’t sell out o2

Crazy to think just a couple of years ago, AJ could sell out 90,000 tickets in the national stadium in super quick time

Now he’s fighting in a 20,000 seat arena, tickets are on sale and still thousands left that you can just buy easily.

It’s a crazy drop off in popularity, just because of a few losses, 2 of them on points to one of the elite fighters in this era.

Are there any other sports where fans of a team or athlete are so fickle? I think boxing takes the cake in that respect. I guess it’s what happens when you’ve been hyped up and marketed to a casual fanbase by a corporation.

it’s hard to remember such a quick decline in popularity though. From selling out stadiums in hours to not being able to sell venues way smaller.

No wonder Eddie Hearn is looking older and getting more bitter by the day

He has no belt and he is fighting a fringe contender. What do you expect?

It is not like he fights somebody with the name.

Yeah but he should still be able to fill the o2 arena quickly, plenty of cards fill that arena, it’s not a stadium.

he sold out that venue before he was a world champ

AJ lost a lot of fans due to his racism & embarrassing antics after losing to Usyk the second time.

Imagine Canelo lost his 168 belts to Bivol or Benavidez and fought some barely known guy next.

How big fight would that be?

To be expected, most of his fans were casuals that thought he was the no.1 heavyweight who would KO usyk stiff in a few rounds.

                Yeah, almost all of them.

Baseball - people watch but it's nowhere like it used to be when guys like Cal Ripken were out there
                Definitely football
                Hockey

Remember, people used to line up at stores to buy trading cards for their favorites and collect fight footage.

How many even here actually collect fight footage of the modern guys?

There’s only ever room for one UK superstar and Fury has surpassed Joshua.

Canelo sold like 30,000+ tickets against a semi retired James Kirkland for no title.
