Not a very good fighter, but almost 400k Instagram followers, PR from NYC, good ticket seller, has an “0”. There’s way worse dance partners out there when it comes to selling a fight. He’s not that delusional about his star power, especially compared to other 168-175 fighters.

Other “popular” fighters exist only at 160. GGG, Mall Charlo, Munguia. Benavidez at 168. Otherwise, “big” fight options are slim pickings.

From 160-175, Berlanga is absolutely a top 5 NAME. He’s also the worst of the top 5. His team is also clearly scared of Jesse Hart, which is why they left TR.

So you say he would be a good name on Bivol`s record?

He’s a good dance partner = good b-side fighter to help an A side fighter sell a fight. Is Bivol an A-side fighter?

Strictly talking about money, selling, popularity here. Which seems to be what the topic is about.

          Might as well.

He will probably never be a champion, at least not a legit one.

          Might as well cash out.

Yes, so you say he would help Bivol to sell the fight.

...yeah that is not how that works

not only that but biting his last opponent I think may have actually lost him some fans, another reason why Top Rank was OK with letting him go elsewhere

Look, if he can show improvement and get himself some BIG WINS then yeah I'm all for Canelo vs Berlanga but not right now and most certainly not before a David Benavidez (if he beats Plant of course)

Berlanga is not only not very good, but he’s absurdly and annoyingly delusional. And lets not compare him to Verdejo or Broner, who both had excellent skills but couldn’t overcome outside the ring issues. Broner, especially, was a tremendous force for a brief time.

If Berlanga signed with Matchroom and Canelo actually agreed to face him, it would make some of Canelo's easier opponents in the past like Fielding and Yildirim look like world beaters. Berlanga has looked beatable against mediocre competition, Canelo would tear him to pieces. Nobody wants this fight except Berlanga, his team and whatever money hungry, opportunistic promoter signs him.
