Controversial Floyd is GREAT for boxing

Personally i cant stand the man. BUT, Floyd Mayweather Jnr, like many other great boxers, stirs up enormous amounts of controversy and divides boxing fans.

For me, after watching him beat JMM, his talent is unquestionable. He doesnt have a great killer instinct, and plays it safe too much for my liking, but that's where his enigma lies.

He is super skilful, yet doesn't give many fight fans what they want....an exhibition in brutality.
His focus on defence takes away from the drama and excitement boxing is famous for. Yet its his defence and accurate, economic pot shotting which separates him from all other fighters.

As a boxing fan i love his skill, some of his defensive moves are as good as a great Roy Jones punch combination.

If he was embrace danger and trade punches more often, he would get hit more. He may be more exciting but wouldnt be considered the best defensive boxer ever.
Whitaker could have been much more cautious and been hit even less. Same with Pep.
Floyd has no desire to gamble with danger, and risk being hurt. He is 100% on the win. Maybe more so than any other boxer ive seen.

I believe he is an ATG and P4P the best boxer on the planet. At the moment, it looks like the only chance he has of losing is in a fantasy match up with Leonard, Hearns or Robinson.

Id love to see him beaten, and think he has flaws, but no one is good enough to expose them. Its one of the reasons i love watching him. To try and figure out HOW ITS POSSIBLE to beat him.
In that sense he is different from other fighters, who i watch to see fight. For the drama.

Floyd is too skilful for drama.

We can all criticise the **** he talks, but thats too easy. He cant handle criticism.
He doesnt seem to understand, the only way to shut up the critics is to fight the best WW's (which everyone believes he would succeed in, with ease).

I would like to see him put himself in real danger against a much bigger opponent. Someone with all the advantages. Only then will we see Floyds skill and heart put to the test.
He needs to achieve the unthinkable, with the odds against him.
All other ATG's have put themselves in that position.

I believe Floyd is capable of much more than we have seen. But will he ever be behind on points or get seriously rocked? Im doubtful.

Controversy is great for boxing. Floyd is the super talent who could beat Pac, Cotto and Mosely with ease and somehow still make us feel we are being cheated.

Just had to let that out.

Over 1 million people paid 50 bucks to watch floyd fight a guy that they knew and were told didnt have a chance and it was a mismatch.

So what does that tell you about Mayweather's drawing power

      and you say
"He doesnt seem to understand, the only way to shut up the critics is to fight the best WW's (which everyone believes he would succeed in, with ease). "

Well his critics dont matter, Why should he fight for his critcs when they are going to hate on him any way it goes..!!

So you are saying he should fight fight for his haters?
      I say for what!

Floyd is fighting for his fans..That's why "HIS FANS" help him get over 1 million p.p.v's ..!!!

So he has to be doing something right in order for people to keep buying his fights !!

This is the MOST IRRATIONAL THING I HAVE EVER READ !!!!

Floyd is in a no win situation no matter who he fights.
Anybody who he fights can be discredited unless they beat the **** out of floyd and floyd barley wins...

People just want too see Floyd lose or barley win. PERIOD

        Like I said before

        1. People Complaining about Size Are Clueless and just want to make excuses.

        2. People who want to act like this is the first time a little guy has fought a big guy just expose themselves to criticism that they dont know boxing history.
        1. People act Like Sugar ray Robinson never fought henry armstrong.
        2. People act Like SRL never foguht duran
        3. People act Like Hagler never fought SRL
        4. People act Like Joe Louis never Fought Billy Conn
        5. People act Like Bernard Hopkins never Fought de la hoya
        6. People act Like Aaron Pryor never fought Alexis Arguello

Do you guys know any history?

Oh my bad you guys are so called "HARDCORE" boxing fansBut yet dont know any of boxing's History.

Like I posted Before and Props to TomatQKinG111 who wrote this

I mean Floyd is always in a no win situation. If I had boxing skills that was superior and was always overshadowed by fighters with half the skill or fighters who liked to take endless amounts of punishment just to please the fans.

Why bleed and cut it you don't have too?

I don't blame Floyd for not wanting to be punch drunk.

Could you imagine someone like MJ dumbing down his skill level to make a bball game closer so people can see a more competitive game

or Jerry Rice purposely dropping passes so football fans can see how he struggles under pressure.

Alot of "so-called" boxing fans are always trying to force Floyd and other fighters that practice the sweet science to abandon their defense n put there chin in the air for there enjoyment.

Athletes being asked to be less athletic, never thought I'd see the day.

            BOXING IS AN ARTFORM...
Floyd Mayweather jr. has masterd the ARTFORM of boxing to perfection.
Just look at the compubox numbers !!!

he is the greatest defensive fighter EVER !!

I dont want to see him in there just swinging crazyi wild ass punches..!!
thats not what i expect for Floyd, I expect him to do what he always does.
And that is Show the entire world, How to shut someone's OFFENSE down !!
and How to exposed SO CALLED Great fighters flaws...!!

FLOYD is boxing at it's purist form.
So the excitment you should get is not Wanting Floyd to change his game up...

But Wanting to see if anybody will take the risk like casitillo did in order to beat Floyd.....

Floyd shouldnt have to change his style to accomadate FIGHT FANS like you.

BOXING FANS love his style just the way it is...

I believe he desires recognition from boxing fans and writers.

I never said he should fight for his 'haters'. Haters and non-biased critics are 2 different things. Im not a hater, but i am a critic.
If he was only to fight for his fans, that means he could fight an amateur, and because of his fan base, they would pay to watch.

He obviously wants recognition, as he states he is greater than Ali, Leonard etc. He gets criticised for that and rightly so.

PPV numbers dont equal greatness or achievement in boxing terms.

To say u are the best without beating the best leaves u open for criticism. Thats all im saying.

Im not suggesting he change his style and become a slugger. im saying his style is where is greatness lies, and also why his fights lack drama and excitment.
                Thats my whole point!
I think he is great, but the style which makes him great isnt pleasing to many fight fans.
So he creates controversy. He has people talking, and bickering about him constantly.

My post that u found so IRRATIONAL was suggesting he has won all his fights in his comfort zone, and i believe he needs to push himself further.
Im not saying i want him to take shots and get beat up and barely win in order for me to give him credit. But that all true ATG's have pushed themselves to their limit so there greatness can be measured.

I believe he could out box bigger opponents than WW's. I dont think theres any real competition there.

In a nutshell, i believe we havent seen the best of Floyd. And, as a boxing fan, id like to.

Also, people dont forget that Leonard fought Duran or that Luis fought Conn. But that they credit the underdog for taking the challenge much more than the favourite for winning.
Would Leonard be considered so great if he hadnt beaten Hagler? Or if Duran hadnt beaten Leonard? Or if 'old' Ali hadnt taken on a young monster Foreman?
                Thats where true greatness lies.

Floyd is expected to win all these potential fights. Id like to see him step outside his comfort zone. Thats not a criticism, thats a optimistic hope, that Floyd is as great as i believe him to be.

People talked about him non stop when he was retired. Boxing is fine without him, but the buzz he creates is second to none IMO.

BOXING FANS love his style just the way it is...
Again, im not a 'fight fan' wanting Floyd to change anything. I think his style, his ability to adapt, to be inventive, his versatility is good enough to mix it with opponents much bigger than him.

Like any athlete, he should push himself to his limit. He hasnt been pushed yet.
Athletes always try to break their personal best and if they can, break world records.
Floyd to me is like a sprinter easing off near the finish line because he has won the race and doesnt care about setting a new world record time. Then brags about being the fastest ever! lol

I appreciate boxing is dangerous, but Floyd could fight a middleweight and not get hit. He may not land enough to win, but i believe he wouldnt get hit very much at all. Id love to see him try.
He has the stamina, the foot speed, the reflexes, the accuracy to get away with it IMO.
