he's an aggressive counter-puncher. he operates on a higher defensive frequency than the likes of Whitaker/rigondeaux who runs away.

Canelo actually moves forward while countering his opponents punches. shortens the defensive reflex time, much harder to do what he does and he still has a way better resume than Whitaker and Rigondeaux.

        Oh ffs.
best defense right? when you play football on the defense side, you make contact with the opponent, you dont do moves to make the opponent miss you.

Smh.. There are still some idiots who lack of reading skills.

His defensive skills were based on ultimately ducking into canvas. His face was almost touching canvas and way below his opponents' waist level. That's illegal. Because there is no surface to hit and to score.

You can see his modern version in the first Haney vs Kambosos fight.

Canelo doesn't need that type of exaggeration shıts. He escaping from punches by millimeter margin.

At their peaks, or in top form, in no real order.

Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Junior, Floyd Mayweather Junior, Mike Tyson, James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, Pernell Whitaker.

Nobody can deny, that at their peak? Muhammad Ali & Roy Jones Junior were extremely difficult to land punches on.

There has also been no Heavyweight since Mike Tyson, who has simultaneously combined offense and defense with such sophistication. No heavyweight, and no fighter in the entire sport of boxing 'In any weight class'.

Fighters are ether attacking or defending. Mike Tyson could move forward at speed, while still being hyper aware of what his opponents offense is trying to achieve. No attacking, offensive and brawling fighter has ever duplicated such a style at any weight class.

                      Other great defensive fighters are:

Wladimir Kiltschko 'At his peak', Jimmy Young.
                      ,
Of course boxing historians will mention fighters like Willie Pep, Nicolina Locche, Wilfred Benitez.
