Can low-level pro or amateur fights compare to the big boys?

Hi all - I'm new here, glad to join the party!

I've been a casual boxing fan for a while, just following whatever makes the headlines in the various countries I've lived in. I've recently tried to get myself deeper in, and it's just far too difficult (from here in Germany at least), to get any sort of coherent reporting and opportunities to watch fights. I've had a lot of fun attending small fights with young guys making their pro debut, and have found myself following the IBA tournaments (both youth and elite) since the tournament format creates more excitement when I otherwise dont know anything about the fighters.

I've also really enjoyed just watching random documentaries about up and coming boxers, and then find myself more interested in these guys than any of the top level pros.

Was interested to hear what draws you to boxing more: the stories and understanding of the fighters and their journeys, or the absolute technical quality of a fight. For me its quite clearly the former; even StreetBeefs has me hooked!

Also - if there are any other non-UK or US fans, would be keen to hear what websites and streaming services you use and which promotions you follow.

    Greetings from Germany

History is what draws me to this sport. The fact you can trace a fighter from 1923 to 2023 in an unbroken lineage(mostly) is what is amazing....these guys are actually connected to the past.

Unlike in NBA/NFL where the superbowl/nba champs can lose the first game of the next season and nobody would care the next day.

They don’t compare to the pro fights but they teach you things. You learn more as an amateur than you learn as a pro IMO. Pro boxing is more about development than learning in my experience.

What attracted me to boxing is where else can a homeless Panamanian street kid become a global superstar, where else can an orphan kid from the Philly ****** become World Champ, where else can you go from the Filipino Slums to the richest fight in history. I don’t think there’s any other sport with those types of stories. Anyone can make it in boxing, it’s always been that outlet for the lower classes to make it in life.
