Does anyone else think that Malig is copying Mayweather's playbook. I watched his fight with diaz...and it seems the man is now fully emulating Mayweather, starting with the elbow guard, right down to the shoulder roll.
I do believe that it worked great for him in Round 1 of that fight, but Baby bull somewhat got around it by the second round, probably because
Malignaggi couldn't fully implement the style. However, His adpotion of the style is a testament to Mayweather's skill.
I don't believe the fight was highway robbery like many have suggested, Diaz hit that boy with some serious power punches. Infact, he had Malignaggi hurt at least once. It was a close fight, (that i would say), so i would agree that Van Hoyt was probably biased from the start, or just plain blind.
In hindsight, People just like what they Malignaggi doing, which was different from what he normally puts out. He now emulates a great tactician, but he's no Mayweather.
He was warned at least once in Round 5 (overall twice..i think) for putting an elbow in baby bull's face.
Another thing i take issue with is the "Malignaggi drama". Y'all are familiar with this drama. It often makes Malignaggi look like a joke in boxing...or rather "the" joke of boxing.
Round 8 of this fight...his boxers where at his feet..draggin'!!!! This clown
always tryin so hard to be cool but it always end up as drama in the ring..
Remember now, first it's was the hairdo, then the shoes, now it's the boxers. Looks like someone's trying very hard for the title of "coolest guy" in boxing. Unfortunately for Maliginaggi, there's already a ton of cool dudes engaged the sweet science, that Malignaggi has no chance in hell of being recognized as one...unless he builds himself a higher profile, and the only way to do that
is to have some significant wins under his belt. A task he often falls short of.
To be a little more blunt...He's trying a little to hard to be black.
But at least, he appreciates his Italian heritage..,it's just his attempt at fusing it with black culture that sucks....
I'm sorry man, but having your boxers sweep the ring is not a good look.
It might arguably look good in the streets (not in my opinion) but it sure as hell don't belong in the ring. No wonder he wasn't taking serious by the Judges. He put on a good boxing clinic, worthy of a close decision
but seeing THAT! (drooping boxers)... Even HBO's commentary team called him out on it...So imagine what the Judges were thinking.
People think Malig won. But that because they like what they saw him do, copying and somewhat implement Mayweather style, a style which by "association" lead them to think Malig was winning or won the fight; the
original user never lost using this style...so it would hardly compute in anyone's concious mind to associated such style with losing.
In summation, Baby bull should have taken him out in the 9th, cuz Malig was just in the wind....flinging himself around by then...probably waiting it out.
