Well, I'd argue they appeal to a certain audience more than their groundbreaking athletic ability attracted people in an awe-inducing manner... more than 1 million people are glued to trash tv, media-manufactured "singers" and the like... if alot of slow-attention span drunk people are into something, doesn't exactly constitute 100% effort on the UFC's part. the fanbase was already there. "these are people in a cage trying to murder the other." how hard is it to promote that?

You said they outsold both Boxing and WWE combined, you won't be able to back that up so STFU.
These figures aren't even the entire year's numbers. The UFC already broke its own PPV record for most revenue in a year, in any sport...IN HISTORY.
I'm a boxing fans, but facts are facts man. Pay these guys their dues, they are doing something right.

come on. there is nothing groundbreaking about UFC. their roster *is* limited, with minimal levels of different personalities, etc.. I'm just saying, in comparison to boxing, since thats all people like to do anymore.
these guys and their hitting the other guy in the head while they are sitting on their chest, or back with their ass in the air, its got a built in fanbase of drunk, loud, tough guys- it isn't rocket science to promote. i'd presume neither is "girls gone wild".
someone wrote recently the "problem" (!!) with boxing and MMA is that MMA has its own "culture"- he said "at a MMA event, they all dress alike, they all look alike, they wear the same fashions" (yeah, this guy made it easy for me..) and that, at boxing, "you see guys in street clothes, but you also see guys in suits"
and he meant that like it was a *bad* thing. i think thats part of boxing's appeal. its true- UFC appeals to one broad demographic- for the most part- and they like to wear Affliction shirts. (damn, that ****s ugly. sorry, Affliction fans. you might as well wear 1980s heavy metal band t-shirts.. i mean.. really?) boxing appeals to a much broader range, personalities, social class, race, and so forth. so there is really no comparison. does that make boxing 'better'? not really- it just makes it different. and thats all i'm saying.Comment
