  • Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson On Potential Opponent Yoshino: We Know He Got Power, He's Tough

Shakur Stevenson's handlers at Top Rank Inc. are going down the list of potential opponents in the WBC rankings for his next fight. The WBC ordered a lightweight elimination match between the third-rated Stevenson and second-ranked Isaac Cruz at its annual convention two months ago. Solid opponent tbf. Stoppage wins over Ito and Nakatani is a decent run of form.

It must be a heck of thing to have 'professional fighters' saying not by words as much as their actions that they are scared to fight you, and don't want to be part of your 'knock-out/beat-up/quit-on-the-stool highlight reel.

No guts, no glory, no pride who gives a sheet, seems to be the 'fad of the day'.

I want Stevenson against Haney and Ryan Garcia. Tank vs all three of those fighters will be interesting because they are all more skilled than other fighters he's faced and they have a huge height advantage.

I like the kids skills but why tf is he fighting this guy? Couldnt ask for a mandatory shot at the wbo lightweight title since he was that title holder at 130, or am I missing something?

You are missing a lot. Three guys turned him down including Kamboso (understandably).
Shakur did also state that he plans on waiting for the Haney-Loma winner. They are all stable mates and he supports that fight but wants the winner.

What you're missing is he lost the belt on the scales.

Arum is not going to jump him in front of Loma for the Haney fight. Bob loves him some Loma.

Shakur isn't fighting Haney next and Top Rank is going to keep him fighting these type of fights until the belts are vacant. I'd be willing to bet money after this he fights Jamaine Ortiz.
