The most meaningful comment so far. If the WBC allow this to fly, which I believe they would, I expect the IBF to order their mandatory rightaway, or strip Spence if no compliance. Thurman had no business being mandatory to begin with.Comment

IBF won't mandate anything. They will have Ennis fight another eliminator, just Stanley is doing. Spence will be given another voluntary because the burnout flute player has been is a voluntary, not a mandatory but we can pretend otherwise.Comment

To buy some time to think things over, perhaps?Comment

Spence is a gym rat and has never missed weight in his whole career. He makes welterweight with no problems. So why would he hold all his titles hostage and go up to 154 to fight a very inactive Keith Thurman, when there are very strrong, willing, mandatory challengers at 147?
Oh I get it- Keith Thurman's name has the veneer of a former champ with only one loss, but underneath it all, is a former champ plagued by inactivity and injuries, with a smaller frame that'll be slower at 154, thereby stacking the deck and giving Errol the best chance to win once again. It also gives Thurman who's another PBC guy, and an old wounded lion, a good payday and a chance to ride off into the sunset. It's the Al Haymon planLast edited by archiemoore1; 01-11-2023, 04:04 AM.Comment

Makes sense why would you voluntarily give the belts up unless you knew you would never fight at 147 again, it just gives him more options and makes sense to hold onto them until forced to vacate or he decides he is done at 147.
Im sure some real info from the fighters will immerge soon enough everybody is reacting on a headline and with haters, that's all they need.Comment
