If this is it for him at welter, why did he ask the WBA to allow him to fight Keith above 147 while still keeping his belt? Why not just drop the belts instead? The WBA conditionally granted his request on condition he fights his mandatory or Crawford next at 147.

Spence is a gym rat and has never missed weight in his whole career. He makes welterweight with no problems. So why would he hold all his titles hostage and go up to 154 to fight a very inactive Keith Thurman, when there are very strrong, willing, mandatory challengers at 147?
Oh I get it- Keith Thurman's name has the veneer of a former champ with only one loss, but underneath it all, is a former champ plagued by inactivity and injuries, with a smaller frame that'll be slower at 154, thereby stacking the deck and giving Errol the best chance to win once again. It also gives Thurman who's another PBC guy, and an old wounded lion, a good payday and a chance to ride off into the sunset. It's the Al Haymon plan
