Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis Claps Back At Shakur Stevenson: 'He Doesn't Have Power, I Hit Like A Strong Cruiserweight'

Gervonta Davis has a date with Hector Luis Garcia on Saturday at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. on Showtime pay-per-view. Should Tank remain successful, Ryan Garcia will be his next foe ready to go for an already agreed-upon 136 catchweight bout set to take place this spring.

“Even with [the sixth-round KO of Rolando Romero], it wasn't just no power shot. It's how I threw it. The spot I hit him. The timing. Like, even the movement I did. It's every little thing. I didn't just throw a swinging shot.”

Tank is 100% correct on this assessment.

I am very surprised how many fans act like Tank is some crude, wild swinging power hitter. The dude can box, he has great footwork/movement, handspeed, accuracy, timing, awareness. His power just augments all of those other skills. It’s like a really big bonus. A fight changing bonus. Like if those other skills are failing him one night, maybe an off day, his power is there. And vice versa.

Kev - we’ll know a little bit more after he fights Ryan and Shakur. I think Tank is a very good fighter, but his resume is pretty pedestrian to be honest. His biggest win would arguably be Pedroza , who is a darn good fighter, but also far from a great fighter. I’m glad Davis seems to be stepping up his opposition and if he follows through on these two fights after Saturdays fight you have to give him his props.

I agree wholeheartedly with Davis on Stevenson talking loud but has done absolutely nothing yet! If Stevenson can look very good against a top real lightweight then maybe I’ll change my mind but we have yet to see him look devastating at even lower weight classes. Good but not great! He can box and avoid lots of shots, but who has he beat that he shouldn’t have, really! No household names to me just basic MF’ers he should have beat.

In the end, Stevenson beats Davis because he's better.

Same can be said about Davis, be honest who has he been an underdog against other than against Pedraza, so realistically "who has he beat that he shouldn't have, really! no household names to me just basic MF'ers he should have beat."

He's feasting on Mexicans and his promotional outfit(s) are tricking naive fans with the secondary title BS, until he fight some real names at 35 himself he's "done absolutely nothing" just like Shakur.

I think Shakur Stevenson beats everyone at LW except Tank Davis.

Davis does have great skills for being a short puncher. He took away Barrios jab away and systematically got to him. He was able to box to victory against Cruz with a hurt hand. He is the only fighter that has been able to stop Pedraza.

Him being associated with Floyd and Broner has transferred the anger to him.

These 3 (Davis, Shakur, and my guy Haney) will obviously talk shlt to each other but probably not fight, at least for a while.

Shakur beats Tank - which is why the fight never happens. Shakur has been built properly in the pro ranks, matched against a better variety of opponents at the right time. It'll continue the trend of Top Rank fighters beating PBC fighters - more than 90% of the time, the TR fighter wins.

Whereas Tank's resume is full of lower quality opposition, and even then he was giving up rounds to an inexperienced prospect like Rolly Romero.
