  • Comments Thread For: Jaron Ennis: The Big Names Are Coming, I Just Have To Be Patient

By Thomas Gerbasi - This weekend, the 2023 Fighter of the Year race begins. And if all goes well on Saturday in Washington, D.C., and over the next 12 months, the name Jaron Ennis will feature prominently in that race. If. "It's all about fighting the best," said Ennis. "I want to fight all the top guys and the guys that everybody knows. But things don't always go how they're supposed to."

This is the best it’s going to get for boots. Look at the divisional leaders and their opponents. I don’t see the point of getting to the top so he can tiptoe around guys up there. These guys need to align with different management to get fights made. Haymon scared to match his own guys against each other. Smh. We gotta get rid of this cancer

I'm not sure when he'll get a big fight, it's possible he could be the next Andrade, there's a few reasons why:
            • He's technically not a PBC fighter so he can't get access to those names (Garcia, Thurman, Ugas etc.)
            • Around 10 months ago, there were reports he signed a multi-fight deal (extension) with ShowTime - which also means he can't fight on other networks so he must be content or happy with his current situation
            • Even though he's a fan friendly style, he hasn't been built into a draw, so the risk reward balance isn't right for a lot of fighters
            • The sanctioning bodies aren't doing there job and calling/enforcing mandatories

He is going to get to 40 fights before he fights for a title, this will be a record of sorts

“I feel like Errol Spence Jr. would fight me,” he said. “I’m going in there with the intention of winning the interim title, then fighting Errol next. I think we can make it happen.”

Please Lord, let this be true!!!

From what I've heard, Spence has 120 days after the flute player fight to vacate and runs up to 154, fight ennis or crawford. Lets see if Haymon pulls another trick and gets Spence a voluntary. Fanboys are going to have to really explain that one if it happens. Crawford is still dangerous and I could see him having all kinds of issues with Ennis' movement and speed. I don't see him folding a big welterweight like Ennis with a couple of bodyshots when he couldn't put a dent in fat little mikey garcia.

It's good that he watches the greats of old and learns things, and doesn't think he knows it all.

He's a super talent, and he can definitely learn from Iron Mike, and other greats of different styles like Floyd, Whitaker, Robinson, Armstrong, Leonard, Louis and Ali.

I'd love if him and Spence fought, because I don't think 'Boots' is in a fixed long contract with PBC, although he fought on the Charlo-Castano 2 card, so perhaps some hope.

He's with the big network Showtime, who do collaborate with PBC too. But yeah, with Showtime, a big fight is coming, as they're going to make it financially rewarding for a big name to take the risk.
