Good post. He's ranked 10 by TBRB. Butler who Inoue just knocked out was ranked 8. If there's no better option then make the fight. People seem to want it both ways, talking about the "four belt era" and fighters enjoying the kudos that comes with that status but then want to disregard the mandatories. I don't doubt Charlo would take the fight, he seems prepared to fight anyone in his division, so I just hope he's not advised to vacate.

You're right about him not fighting anyone of note, and he can't be considered being avoided if he is taking step aside money. But, as far as nobody wanting to see the fight, I beg to differ. As a boxing fan I want to see the best fighting the best, as well as champions fighting their mandatories, , especially if there isn't a more lucrative option as an alternative. If champions can constantly avoid their mandatory challengers, whether they pay step aside money or just straight up duck them, why have champions and rankings to begin with?Comment

So, you'd rather see Murtazaliev against the winner of Mell vs Tszyu (presumably Charlo) over Fundora? Not me. Not by a long shot. Bakhram hasn't fought anybody of note in the division. Fundora hasn't exactly been in with the top guys either, but has has a lot more respectable names (Cota, Garcia, Ocampo) on his resume and he beat up Lubin who's been in with and beat a lot of the bigger names in the division.
He and Tank could set a trend here. I would love to see the elite guys more active.Last edited by dan-b; 12-23-2022, 03:13 PM.Comment

With Charlo fighting in January, it leaves him open to fight three times in a calendar year, so he could face Murtazaliev and Fundora. That way he could keep all four of his belts, which I thought everyone wanted?

The thing is Murtazaliev, to my understanding, is behind Fundora in line. But, it sounds like he's trying to make a stink about his place. There are very good reasons he hasn't gotten his shot yet. And, honestly, if Jermell beats Tszyu then beats Fundora, I'd rather see a fight between him and Crawford after that if Bud either fights and beats Spence or if the fight with Spence doesn't happen.Comment

There are so many of these fighters from these eastern block countries, who are good fighters but virtually unpromotable. They don’t speak English or have colourful personalities, they are from home countries that don’t really have the infrastructure to host major ppv events, and there aren’t any areas or pockets of the US where you can stage a fight and have their countrymen fill an arena.
How can you put enough money of the table to make Murtazaliev worth the risk/reward for any top fighter?Comment
