Chris Eubank Jr. has no intention of hanging up the gloves anytime soon. The veteran British middleweight contender, who just turned 33, is approaching a period in which many boxers may experience a natural decline in their ability and start thinking about pursuing a less arduous career path. Not so with Eubank. The Brighton native is headed toward a 12-round middleweight bout with Liam Smith on Jan. 21 at AO Arena in Manchester.

I used to despise Eubank but he's actually warmed up on me as being quite entertaining. Yes, he's mediocre but he's really come into his own and a credit to him he has beaten some good fighters albeit way past their primes.

He doesn’t have skills to fall back on when he slows down

He's ranked second with both the WBO and WBC, surely the Janibek fight is one they can easily make, especially seeing as Munguia (number 1) pulled out? Not sure why he's not in the mix at 160, he's a big enough name to bring fighters to the UK. Maybe they're waiting to see what Golovkin does next, although I'd expect a Charlo or Munguia fight does better for GGG at this point. Chris should really get on with it, good win here against Smith and then get in the title picture, don't want to see him pissing about with a Benn fight.

Eubank Jr has always just chased paydays. He’s always lacked genuine ambition IMO. He’d rather be a celebrity than be a fighter.

There’s no way he’d fight Janibek IMO, that’s an easily make-able fight too, but he won’t take it. I reckon the Benn fight gets revisited sadly. Hearn is desperate for a fight that can move the needle in the UK and it’s one of few fights he’s actually capable of making.

the beltless one has spoken, not everyone is good enough to win one of the many belts available, eubank is just off that point but could do it with the right opponent and has tried and fallen just short in the past, hes a money guy, belts dont mean much because he knows hes not good enough for them but im sure deep down would love them for that huge ego of his, boxing still has given him a good living, better than most i would say for his level & little benn is still there for him at some time, happy days

I don't know if there is that many smaller fighters around willing to give away a division or two?

Think about retirement when fighters start giving you a beating who shouldnt be. I mean if Benn starts outclassing you at middlweight then maybe retire. But Pac might beat you to GGG and hes 44 years old.

Good point! It would be interesting to see what eubank would do if, after the smith fight (presuming eubank wins), WBO mandate him to fight Janibek for their title.
