Guys Who Talked Themselves Into a Big Fight

Nothing trumps McGregor talking himself into a Mayweather match. 2nd biggest payday ever in boxing despite being severely unqualified for the sport

    honorable mentions

Lara getting onto the podium to crash Alvarez post-fight presser then getting the fight shortly thereafter

Guerrero talking himself into being a tuneup for Floyd was another example of talking yourself into a big fight

David Haye talked himself into a Wlad fight. Albeit Wlad didn’t have any stellar competition pending anyway.

      Rolly with Tank.

Haye was the WBA Heavyweight Champion, and former Unified Cruiser weight World Champion.

Only the second cruiser weight in history at that time to capture a World Heavyweight title.

That is not talking mate, that is fighting.

Tony Bellew did it several times in the UK.

Tarver goaded Roy into moving straight back down from HW.

Floyd talked his way into the Oscar fight tbh. He knew that fight was the window to superstardom.

Then the most famous example would be Ali talking his way into a title shot vs Liston. Many people bought into that fight because they were looking forward to seeing someone shut up the young and brash Cassius Clay.

He 100% talked his way in. Haye had one good win, I’m an up and down fight against Mormeck.

After that he was very carefully matched, it was Enzo Mc, Monte Barrett, Valuev, the ghost of John Ruiz and Audley. Haye always knew the end game was a cashout fight vs one of the Klitschko’s and when the fight happened he ran like a b**** for 12 rounds.

              Was worst than running

haye went gaye and kept getting on his knees to sniff wlad’s ick

falling after constant failed clinch attempts like he wanted to blow the man

that was the g@yest performance for all the pre-fight talk

and photoshop of him ripping both bros heads off

surprised boxing fans weren’t angry that Haye didn’t get hurt bad in that fight for being full of sht

Exactly. Haye trolled his way into the fight with a thin resume. Had people believing the hype and he was the new exciting heavyweight the division needed. Then squandered it all away by running all 12.

It was a terrible performance. I travelled over to Hamburg and sat in the f***ing rain watching it too. Then to top things off, he blames it on his little toe.

Haye was a great salesman. Sky really bought into him and paid him millions. He very nearly destroyed boxing as a product for them. After the Haye-Harrison and Klitschko-Haye fiasco’s Sky completely scaled back on boxing and were close to removing it altogether from their product portfolio. If Frank Warren hadn’t of left and started Boxnation, Sky would have walked away from the sport.
