Who should replace Max Kellerman?

No one should replace Max Kellerman. There's nothing wrong with asking questions that pertain to boxing in an interview. If Kellerman isn't fired, he should at least be prevented from conducting an interview again after the Marquez vs Mayweather debacle last Saturday night. This was one of many occasions where Kellerman's inflated ego tried to dominate what should have been an informative and insightful interview with a boxer.
Another wasted opportunity and, what has developed into an habitual weakness within the networks itinerary - something that HBO should endeavour to avoid repeating by first acknowledging the obvious flaw. Assuming Kellerman remains on the HBO team as a commentator, who would be the best replacement for Kellerman, as an interviewer, at this stage?Comment

Kellerman's alright. People seem to be overreachting. Yeah, he let things get out of control, but it was the first time something of the magnitude that happened because of him. Let him learn from his mistakes, and move on.
However, he'll never be as good as Larry Merchant. No one can replace that senile, old drunkard.Last edited by Shadows; 09-24-2009, 08:44 PM.Comment

I kinda like Kellerman, sure he acts like he is a know all or something at times but he is a fair analyst and commentator. If Kellerman isn't fired, he should at least be prevented from conducting an interview again after the Marquez vs Mayweather debacle last Saturday night. Kellerman's interviews are more like extended commentary with the fighter standing next to him, he doesn't have the ability to actually extract many coherent answers from fighters. His mid-fight commentary is passable (although long-winded), he clearly tries hard to imitate Merchant and this was apparently HBO's intention - to have someone similar to Merchant as a replacement when he eventually retires. The formulaic approach.
The problem is Kellerman just doesn't have the same ability as Merchant when interviewing. And it's this weakness in his skill set that really reflects badly on HBO, bringing down the whole broadcast to an almost amateur level. I've seen many superior interviews with boxers from various fan-driven boxing shows on the net for example. These serve to further highlight Kellermans own deficiencies as an interviewer.Comment

The issue isn't Kellerman's right to ask questions, it's his inability to take control of the interview. The fighters don't respect him and so they don't take any notice of him. Max was practically on his knees begging Shane & Floyd to be quiet whereas someone with respect would have slapped them down double quick.Comment
