You cannot fight 200 good fighters, any of the top modern guys would easily dominate the same opposition Ray beat weekly, most, meaning the vast majority were cans, real cans with massive losing streaks many of whom didn't even train like a fighter should train, to say he was perfect is only referencing the time, as he was then would get beat today.

The old school boxing only competed against old school boxing, try and train like they did and compete at elite level today, you would get slaughtered, its all relative to what and whom you are in with, people place way to much emphasis on the numbers without digging deep into those numbers, Joe Louis was just before Ray and he the famous bum a moth moniker, it went with the times because the vast majority of fighters were street toughs making some money in very hard times, they weren't the sophisticated athletes that compete at world level today not even close. Its like saying the 1940 racehorse greats would beat the 1970s Secretariat, the rise of athlete in boxing is no different to animals, the big transformation began in earnest during the 70s across the board, this a time where science began to make big improvements in all sport.

Ah BS, he would be in better shape, its proven with Vo2 max testing which is the maximal and optimal rates oxygen can be used by the heart lungs and muscles, they know what the limits are of human conditioning and they a there, you guys are in this era yet think the good old days are 100 years ago, it so backward thinking it amazes me.

If you fight 200 fighters not all of them are going to be good, but many of them will be. The important thing is the amount of repetitions you would be getting at improving and mastering your sport. Fighting twice a year simply isn't enough to reach high levels of mastery.

Modern sport science seems good at packing on excess muscle like with the lab created Anthony Joshua. But all that size doesn't necessarily make one a skillful fighter, and it would actually get in the way of fighting 15 rounders.

You say that they were unsophisticated back then. But that is incorrect:
        • Floyd Mayweather basically dominated the modern era with a throwback fighting style that his father learned as young man from a Michigan trainer who was in his 70's at the time.
        • James Toney also did well with similar tactics gained by studying Ezzard Charles and taught to him by Bill Miller who fought in the 1940s.
        • Mike Tyson was forged by Cus D'Amato.
        • Roberto Duran had Ray Arcel and Freddie Brown.

Old school lineage all the way. There was a variety of styles back then which have pretty much become extinct now. So we are in effect LOSING valuable boxing knowledge instead of science building on it and evolving it.

Right, we're backwards, but those guys could fight 15 rounds 10x a year against HOF fighters, while guys can barely go 12 against journeymen these days.

How many torn achilles, ACLs, & muscles did you hear about in the HOF old-school fighters?

The proof is in the pudding

15 rounds against the same era guys, like ponys racing ponys you still get a winner, they wouldn't stack up today, the reason why the old school did not break down is that they were not under as extreme training as modern athletes, the same goes for racehorses, the modern era from 1970 onwards they are faster more powerful and because of that they breakdown much easier, you cannot genetically change the flesh and bone in a 100 yrs but you can sure as hell refine it like a formula one race car.

To think today's guys cant fight 15 is ridiculous, they only pace themselves differently, in the 1800s they fought 50 rounds, 2 punches a round and a lot of staring lol today they are so much more dynamic and power-laden. stamina is not a continuous flow, its maximal effort and recovery time, the more stamina the faster your recovery its a constant ebb and flow.

The old school is just that and it cannot compete with anything of the modern era, its proven science you guys get all nostalgic over hype and stories, show me one single video of those guys fighting that compares with say Leonard Hearns's fights.

The sport in the 1800s was not the same sport that it is now.

Watch the "Sugar Ray" Robinson videos from the '50s and tell me it looks like a different sport than the sport you see now?

Boxing in the 1800s was a lot more violent and physical because the refs allowed for more holding, grabbing, and wrestling.

Muhammad Ali threw 715 power punches against Joe Frazier in the "Thrilla In Manilla" in 1975. Only 1 fighter has thrown more since (David Bostice)

              Awful comparison

The ONLY thing modern fighters have on guys from 50-60 years ago is STEROIDS/PEDs.

They don't fight as often and they don't fight high-level competition as often.

It'd be like if the NBA decided to start playing 20 games per season from here on out and then claiming that guys are better than LeBron & Michael Jordan.

What you're saying may be true in other sports, but boxing is the only sport regressing (other than baseball)
