Russian middleweight and Perm beloved son Alexey “Ferocious” Chirkov has tragically died this Monday in his hometown. An unexpected cardiac seizure is the cause of this shocking death. Chirkov was five months short of his 30th birthday.
“I just can’t get it”, said his long-time friend and manager Dmitry Gerasimov in his interview to PRO-BOX.ru. “He has never complained about any cardiac disorders. It’s just a shock for all of us”.
Chirkov debuted as a professional in 2001 and compiled a nice list of 18 wins (11 by way of knockout) and 6 losses over a span of eight years. Alexey was once the Russian middleweight champion; his most memorable win being a unanimous decision of still-capable at the time ex-champion and fight legend Julio Cesar Vasquez in January 2004.
He was, however, less successful in recent years. In his last fight this May, Chirkov lost a six-round decision to Kazakh Semyon Uporov.
Rest in Peace, Alexey.
