I believe the funds to cover the check were on hold in the bank they had been deposited in and that some of the money was temporarily unavailable. Prograis didn't have a bad check, he just needed to wait until the hold on the funds at the other bank was lifted.

He specifically said it returned NSF - that means there was no money in the account it was written against.

The clarification about "new account" was likely on the checkwriter side, which is sketchy. They would have held funds because it's new. But why are you paying 7 figures from a new account? That's shady as hell.

If he just deposited the check the bank had to wait to release funds. The check did not bounce. He needs to slow down. The money won't last him 3 months.
