British weekly magazine Boxing News is calling on Fury and Usyk to drop their sanctioning body belts and contest the universally recognised heavyweight championship of the world anyway.
This follows their championship policy recognising the Transnational Boxing Ranking Board (TBRB) rather than the arbitrary decisions of the corrupt, compromised and self-interested sanctioning bodies.
I know fans still love these shiny belts and terms like "undisputed", but surely the sport is better off without them in the long term? The alternative is recognition of ever more belts - how long until a "five belt era" which includes the IBO?
I never wanted to recognise the WBOgus but in the end it became institutionalised because fans just love those belts (especially when their favourite fighter holds one).
So tell me, are you ready to embrace the post-belt era?
