  • Comments Thread For: Canelo Preparing For May Return Following Wrist Surgery: 'Therapy Is Going Well'

Canelo Alvarez cast doubt on how soon he'd be ready to return to the ring following his unanimous decision victory against Gennadiy Golovkin in September.

I don't wanna see this cherrypick king fight another eurobum like John Ryder or take a tuneup next. He already had his tuneup vs a 40yr old 160lber last september.

He needs to fight a real challenge in Benavidez, Bivol and Beterbiev.

I had a very competitive fight based on the limitations I had. My hand, my shoulder, the first half of the fight I did very well, and then came the burden, because we did not train as it should be
Carnelo prepared his excuses for the Bivol loss.

Wouldn't mind seeing Canelo attempt to avenge the loss to Bivol but Canelo may just have met his limits he is a small super middleweight as it is but hey no shame losing to the best of the division above yours.

He should retire after next year,

Parker or Ryder winner in May
Benavidez or Plant 2 in September

anything else you are inviting misfortune

It’s hard to foresee Alvarez ever beating Bivol. Bivol’s stamina is the best I’ve ever seen in a fighter. In a 12-round fight, he never shows any fatigue despite his ultra-high energy, shoot-and-scoot style. Alvarez is typically gassed out in the late rounds anyway -- remember that’s when 40-year old GGG was able to start making a more serious contest of it. Canelo was simply too tired by that point in the fight to muster his skills, quickness, and power.

If Canelo loses weight to improve his endurance, he’ll be even smaller than before while taking on Bivol. Canelo is a good fighter, but I really think he’s just outclassed by Bivol, especially when it comes down to the size of the gas tank.

No way Bivol can be his next fight. He would have to shake all the ring rust and really test if that surgery improved him or will he fall apart midway through the fight.

I don't want excuses if he takes him next and loses again.
